My son is walking really well now and wants to walk when we go out but I do not have suitable shoes for him. Any recommendations?

I found the StrideRight brand to be really nice for first-time walkers. They have nice, wide, rubber soles that provide lots of support and don't slip. They were also comfortable for the kids. The dressier/trendier shoes tended to be less comfortable and less stable for a first-walker. Have fun!

I highly recommend Stride Rite. They measure your child's feet and the shoes are great for walkers. Check out their web site at www.striderite.com

I will recommend Preschoolians, available over the internet at www.preschoolians.com. I understand that they have had plenty of shipping/customer service problems lately, so if you decide to order from them you should be aware. I ordered in Oct. for my then 12 month old daughter. It took longer than I expected to receive the shoes, but they are really great and I do plan to order from them again. I am just going to plan on 3-4 weeks order time! Good luck,

My daughter started walking at 10.5 months and we got her the Stride Rite walking shoes. She still, 4 months later, walks better in bare feet, but the Stride Rites are defintely the best of the shoes she has. She can walk more normally than she does in some of her others where she either trips or marches b/c of them. Stride Rite are recommended as the best first walking shoes and I have to agree.

I'd suggest not getting the cruiser shoes, though. They have the rubber wrap-around toe and my daughter would trip a lot b/c her toe would get stuck on wood or tile floors. That does not happen with the walker shoes.

We've gone through two pairs of Stride Rite shoes (my son is 23 months old), they have held up really well.

Stride Rites are great first walking shoes. They are @ $40. My doctor told me to start the first shoes with good walking shoes and then when they have really mastered the walking, you can go onto to cheaper ones - target, kmart, kids r us... hope this helps...

The best shoes I ever found were at Target (look on the ends of the shoe aisles.) They are the "old fashioned" bootie kind with regular sneaker-type rubber soles, but they are really flexible and bend when the child walks (less tripping and stumbling!)

Stride Rite shoes are great -- they have a few different levels, for first walkers and more advanced walkers. Larger soles than just Robeez, so better for outside. Most baby shoe stores carry them.

Even though they look like slippers, Robeez or Bobux shoes (or other brands with a similar design) are excellent for little developing feet. They are fine indoors or out. They even make a suede soled snow boot if bad weather is a concern. They are pretty expensive, but they can wear them for a surprisingly long time (6 mo or more). Our daughter owned only two pair for almost eight months and they went with everything. Hard soled shoes are not recommended for baby feet when they are just learning to walk. Save those for 18 mo old or later. Hope this helps!

hi S,
my docter advised no shoes for the first 3 months as much as possible. indoors i have the robeez (www.robeez.com) which are really great. outdoors i would go to a good shoestore for a measurement. then pick a shoesize that is one thumb larger. if you pick to large she will fall.
good luck

Try stride rite. They are great shoes and for house slipper...try robeeze. More research is coming out that children w/o shoes or without solid soles help the muscles develope better. More gripping action with toes. I know it's odd seeing your child without regular shoes, however, it's the best and it doesn't cause flat feet. My son is 2 years old and that's all he wears.

You may want to try Stride Rite. The shoes are pricey but good.
