Looking for Recommendations for Music/lights Crib Soother
I have a 8 1/2 month old little boy and am looking for a crib soother that has worked for other moms to help get your little one to relax/fall asleep in his/her crib at night. I am thinking about the "sleep sheep", but could use some other ideas. Thanks!!

I ahve used the Fisher Price Rainforest since she was born. Never heard of it, didnt register for it, a gift that matched my frogs theme. The absolute best gift i have received so far!! My daughter is now 10 months, i put her in the crib and put it on. When it stops, she pushes the parrot if she wants to watch more. If i dont hear it again its because shes fast asleep!!
Def worth it!!

Both my sons love the Fisher Price Aquarium and the new Rainforest waterfall music/crib thingy. I love the music and the options. The water from my first son's (now 4-1/2)aquarium evaporated to about half the original water, but my younger son (10 months+) still loves it. He also has the Rainforest one with a monkey and frog, it is very cute and plays lullaby and Andean music(flute from South America, my husband is Ecuadorean so we are familiar) Very soothing. I recieved both as gifts so I don't know what else is available besides mobiles.
I hope this helps!

Someone got us the Sleep Sheep, and we played it for our son when we wanted to sleep, but I don't think it did much for him. I think you should purchase what other mom's suggested. But let me say that I also had the Fischer Price Rainforest Waterfall Peek-a-Boo Soother, and as the monkey was swinging, it kept making this horrible screeching noise that would not soothe any baby. And the monkey was my baby's favorite part until that noise started happening.

I have 2 year old B/G twins & we use a air machine to soothe them. I keep it on high & they sleep well with it!
It helps with:
~The airplane noise. We live near the airport so we have airplanes flying above all day long.
~They don't hear our footsteps on our hardwood floors.
& the best part,
~Thunder storms don't wake them!
It's also something that can be used after your little one is out of the crib.
Hope this helps!

I have the Fisher Price Ocean Wonders. We use it each night as I lay my child down and I think the sound is a signal for her to fall asleep, like a trigger. The only downside is that it runs 5 minutes and shuts off (unless I'm doing it wrong). My sister thew away her hand-cranked mobile and got a 20 minute piece. Definately find something that runs longer than shorter.

what has worked for me is a "mommy bear" It's a teddy bear with a heartbeat sound like what they hear in the womb. My boys loved it. I also played soft music when they go to bed. When they heard the music, they knew it was time for bed. Now they request it. I hope this helps:)

We use the Fisher Price Waterfall Soother for our 6 month old and he loves it. With the combination of lights, motion and sounds/music he can calm down from even the most furious resistance to a nap. It is a sanity saver for us. Hope it works for you, too.

We have the Fisher-Price Rainforest soother in the crib. It has a swinging monkey and a waterfall sound along with a few different tunes and the ability to have lights and motions on or off. Also, since both of my kids were little, we have played music in their room as they go to sleep. Each has a cd player and we play the Baby Einstein Lullaby music. My daughter is 3 1/2 and still uses it as part of her bedtime routine. I don't know if it matters, but I use the lullaby music for bedtime only. I use the Rainforest soother, sans lights and motion, during naps. My son (10 mos) has been able to turn it on by him self for several months now so if he's still awake when the music ends, he can just hit the parrot and it will start again.

The Fisher Price Aquarium is the best thing Fisher Price ever invented! A friend of mine recommended this for me when my son was 6 months old. He is 22 months old and still using it. He turns it on/off himself. There is a Rainforest version that my sister-in-law uses with my niece and they love that one as well. It's only about $____@____.com luck. Again, highly recommend, saved me sooo many times!

My son is also 8 months and he absolutely loves the Fisher Price Ocean Wonder's Aquarium. I have had it since he was born and the lights and music calm him and puts him to sleep. The timer on it is short but now that he's a bit older he kind of figured it out and presses the on button. I know he is up in the morning because the aquarium will be on.

i use an ipod in a base with speakers (I got it at costco) and play fisher price lullabies. The great thing about this solution is that you can later use it for music anywhere else in your house with any kind of music.

Try the Fisher Price Ocean Wonders lights and music soother. It attaches to the side of the crib and plays different lullabies, water sounds, etc. It also has lights that go along with it and automatically turn off after so much time has passed.
I've also discovered that the Martha Stewart Lullaby CD works wonders as well. Good luck!

We have the Fisher Price Ocean Wonders Soother and it is the best gift we got. It plays music, rain forest sounds, or waves and lights up with bubbles as the fish go around. Our little one is 9 months old and loves it and has figured out how to turn it on by herself so she can put herself back to sleep in the middle of the night. You may have to go on eBay to find it but it is worth it
I would certainly recommend it!!

My daughter loves the musical light show by Tomy. It's a little star that attaches to the side of the bed and projects little bears on the ceiling while playing 3 different songs. She still uses it now and she just turned 4.

Hi, S.. I have a 16 1/2 month old baby boy, and we bought a few things when he was super tiny that we still use today: The Dreams-In-Sight Projection Mobile, because it "converts" to just a music box that the baby can play after you remove the hanging part of the mobile when they get too old. It projects stars and moons onto a little canopy, and it has 3 different songs plus 1 nighttime birds/crickets sound. My son starts it up on his own now to soothe himself. You can get it at Babies R Us, and probably Target too.
The second item we love is the Twighlight Turtle. It's made by CloudB, the same folks who make the Sleep Sheep. It's a night light that projects stars onto the ceiling, has 3 different colors, and stays on for 45 minutes.
We also really like the sound machine we got him at Babies R Us. It has about 10 different sounds, plus you can combine them. We normally have the surf or rain or birds on when my son goes to sleep. There is also a womb sounds button on it. It's called the Sound Sleeper.
Hope some of this helps! Good luck.

I've got 2 little ones (2 yr old girl and a 7 mos. old girl). A couple of good friends of mine with children had recommended a book about Kid's sleep habits to read (skim) when my older daughter was "colicy" in her first months. The name of the book is "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child" by Dr. Weisbluth. I swear by the book. It taught me a lot about how much and what type of sleep babies (toddlers and beyond) need. It blew me away. He recommends avoiding stimulating mobiles and music, etc as those types of "soothing" devices actually stimulate the child instead of relax them. Just thought if you are as desperate as i was for getting my baby some sleep you might give it a shot! Both of my kids now get put down in their cribs awake and have no probs falling asleep on their own. It's a blessing!

My son is 4 and we are working on getting a diagnosis for him being Autistic. He also hvae a seizure disorder. I hvae played lullabies for all my kids since they were baby's and still do for erik. for Christmas, I got him something by homedics that is just great. Look on their website. I got mine at Kohls and let me tell you, he loves it and it plays songs and also different things and then has 3 mini disks that you can put in so it shows up on the wall. I think the website is www.homedics.com.

We have the fisher price ocean wonders aquarium. It plays music, lights up, has bubbles . . .a couple of different options.
We got it when my son was about 7 or 8 months old and he is 17 months and still loves it. There is a big button that he can turn in on by himself if he wants. The one good thing that I like is we use it 3 times a day (2 naps and at nighttime) and the batteries last for several months . . .that's a huge plus for me!
Really though, most of the ones I have seen are pretty good.
Good Luck with your decision,

The one that worked wonders for us was the one by Fisher Price that has birds that go around and around and plays music. It also plays a "movie" on the ceiling which is what my daughter absolutely loved. Even when she would wake up in the middle of the night she would press it and watch the movie until she fell back asleep.

A music/lights crib soother might actually be too stimulating for your young one. Try a sound machine (I purchased mine from sharper image) and turn it on the "white noise" or "yosemite falls" setting. It is just enough to dull the noises in your home of other children, pets or adults while he is sleeping and won't be a distraction in any way. It has worked like a charm for my two children. Keep the volume low and keep it and any cords away from the crib and off the floor, for safety. :-)
