Hi S., I live in Stone Ridge, Loudoun Cty. Not to far from Reston, take a look at this site, gives info on day care and any violations -http://www.loudoun.gov/Default.aspx?tabid=583

My daughter attends Montessori, Casa dei bambini, Chantilly, VA, its an all day preschool. the teachers are great, great recommendations, very clean and teachers and staff know childs first name. the school is not over crowed. DO not go to SPARKLES, bad choice. Let me know if you want more infor, can call me at work ###-###-####. Good Luck.

Hi there - My 2 year old just started at United Christian Parish preschool in Reston and LOVES it. They have 2s, 3s, and 4s. It's located near Lake Anne and the Reston Town Center (to give you some perspective when you arrive here). I don't know the preschool website off hand, but you can do a Google search for it. There is also LANK (Lake Anne Nursery Kindergarten) in Reston. The surrounding area (Herndon too) has a LOT of church preschools also (Herndon United Methodist, St. Timothy's Episcopal, Floris United Methodist) as well as Frying Pan Park "Farm" School. Hope some of this helps. I'd also recommend joining DC Metro Mommies Fairfax IV Chapter - a Yahoo group that I joined to meet local moms - playgroups, moms night out, cooking club, book club, etc. Don't have the website in front of me but just do a google search again and you should be able to find it. Or email me directly and I'll send it to you - jenn_schmiel"at"yahoo"dot"com.

You should check out the site http://www.JustSettling.com. It has tons of info about living in the Fairfax area (including Reston) about schools, doctors, activities for children, etc. Good luck with your move!

Hi S.~
I've lived in Reston for the past 5 years and have nothing but great things to say about the town. It's a wonderful town with or without kids really. If you love the outdoors you will love Reston. There are tons of bike trails/walking paths, tons of playgrounds & pools (only open during the summer months) kept up by the Reston Associaiton. There are 2 community centers within Reston that have many different classes for both kids & adults. My son (22months) and I are enrolled in a music class right now and he seems to really enjoy it. So that's just a few ideas about Reston...more than happy to give you more if you need.
As far as preschool goes I am not as familiar with all the schools but I am a Montessori teacher for 3-6 year olds. So I could list some of the local schools if you are at all interested/familiar with Montessori.
I can recommend an online mother's group called DCMM (DCMetroMommies) and I know plenty of women who could fill you in on preschools and then some in the surrounding Reston area. If you do join this group they break it down into towns within Fairfax County...I think Reston is the Fairfax V group.
HTH,
E.

Hi S.! I live in Reston and love it. There is tons to do - not only in Reston but in the surrounding area. Reston has lots of great playgrounds, pools, parks, and there is even a small zoo. Plus, it's an easy trip into Washington DC.

As for preschools, my son attends Reston Montessori and he absolutely loves it (and so do I!). He just started this past summer and it has been amazing. I have also heard great things about Lake Anne Nursery & Kindergarten (LANK) and Reston Children's Center (www.restonchildren.org).

One thing to keep in mind though - there are pretty long waiting lists at most of the best preschools here. We were on the waiting list for a year before we got into Reston Montessori.

Welcome to the area - let me know if you have any other questions.

Both of my kids (now 7 and 4) have gone to Common Ground Childcare (http://commongroundchildcare.org/) from 3 months old to pre-k. Small, non-profit center - close knit staff that has been w/the center a long time (very low turnover w/staff) and lower staff/child ratio than most. Important questions to ask centers are about their staff turnover and ratio. Not glitzy or flashy - but run by good caring staff.
(PS - we moved about 20 miles away, and I still drove them there - yes maybe I am crazy!)

I am a Restonian; born and raised in Reston. I know of several daycares in the area. I also know of people doing daycare out of their homes (which is very common here). When are you looking to relocate? ____@____.com

Hi S. --

We are sending our three year old to Oak Hills Academy. It is a religious school, so you have to be ok with that.

www.oakhillscs.com

V has been doing very well. In fact, we drive her in from Manassas every morning, and she stays in the after care for about an hour until her daddy can pick her up. Then it's back to Manassas to pick up her baby brother at the sitter's, and we all meet up for dinner, bath, bed.

The worst thing about it is that we live in Manassas! So it's about an hour's + drive in the morning. Otherwise, we've been VERY happy with how she's been doing.

Good luck with the move! I can give you more info on both school and area.

all the best

We live in Reston and have three kids. We send our kids to United Christian Parish Preschool on North Shore Dr. I highly recommend the preschool. They take children from two to five. Two year olds do not need to be potty trained and go two mornings a week. Three year olds go three mornings a week and four year olds, four mornings. Our daughter went there for three years, our son has gone for two and will go again next year and when our youngest is old enough, she will go too! I can't think of any stronger testament than that!
