Looking for plus Size Evening Gown in Houston, TX

I am looking for somewhere to buy an evening gown (for a black-tie society wedding in Dallas)--I am a size 20 after having had a baby recently and can't seem to find anywhere that has really nice formal wear in my size--not just something to make do. I went to T. Carolyn's and had an awful experience, they had no selection at all. Price isn't a big deal as this would be a long-term wardrobe investment. I need the dress by June 1st--any suggestions of where I could find one?

So What Happened?

Hi y'all! just wanted to say thanks for all your help--and pass along a great find. My husband found me a wonderful stylist here in Houston, Audrey Mansfield. She took me shopping and found me a gorgeous gown, shoes, a cocktail suit for the rehearsal dinner and 2 other outfits, many of them were half price! She is super nice, even changed diapers while I was getting fitted for alterations (baby came along), and her fee is really reasonable. She also found my husband a tux at half price and a nice outfit and shoes for the rehearsal dinner--he is hard to fit and hates to shop and even he had a great time with her. Her website is www.amstudioinc.com, (the email on it is old, call her on the phone) and I will post her information on the referral listing on Mamasource. She really gives you your money's worth and we had fun, it was a great Mother's Day gift for me and helped me get my wardrobe back in order after having the baby!

You may want to try Toni Whitaker located at 2402 Rice Blvd. The telephone number is ###-###-####. Toni is a designer in The Village who specializes in one-of-a-kind creations for every event.

Good luck in your search. I hope this will help.

Best,

You might want to try David's Bridal. They have special occasion dresses in certain styles (very nice) up to a size 24. I'm not sure about the timeline, but it's worth a shot. You can look at some of the styles on their website first to see if it's worth going in person. Good Luck!

David's Bridal has a fairly large selection of formals. A friend at work recently bought a very elegant gown for her son's wedding at the one by the Galleria (San Felipe)in approx the same size range.

Don't get discouraged - after all six weeks is not very long at all. It took a good nine months for your body to change that much. Give it a little bit more time and you'll probably be surprised. Enjoy this special time with your new little bundle of joy!!

I actually have a size 22 Watters & Watters Icy blue silk dress. You could have it altered and it would be cheaper than buying a new one.

Let me know if you are interested.

PS - I bought it for my sister for my wedding but she didn't wear it. )C:X

Dear Dress searching Momma,
I am also a plus size momma who recently had an ocasion that required formal wear. I found a great selection and good prices at Davids Bridal and also at Brides Mart. There's also the Bridal Mall on 610 and Westpark. Any of those places would have your size...I ultimately made my purchase at David's Bridal. They had a good selection in my size...(26)...so I know you'd be able to find something there.

C.,
Check out Baubles and Beads on Memorial - they have AWESOME 2nd hand stuff, at WONDERFUL prices. I picked up a suit recently for $69 that I was looking at online for over $400 - and they have plus sized sections. I have a purple jacket/skirt that has beading on it - it's a size 18 though - and FITS like an 18. I'm kinda large in the bust area, so it's really snug there - but fits pretty good everywhere else. It's long - I'm 5'6"...

OH - I have a black chiffon dress - v-neck, pretty flowy, with a sheer over drape that goes with it. I'll see if I can't find a picture and send it.
