Looking for Playgroup in Lyons/Riverside/Brookfield/LaGrange

Hi! I'm looking for a playgroup so that myself, my 2 year old and twin 2 mo. olds can get out of the house once in a while! Is there anything around, or is anyone out there interested in starting something? Want to head off that cabin fever before it starts! ALSO, does anyone know of any good tumbling or yoga type classes for my 2 year old? We moved out here from the city and I've had a hard time finding stuff for kids younger than three.

What can I do next?

There is a gym class and a mom/tot tumbling class through the LaGrange YMCA (Kemman and 31st - LaGrange Park) that meet actually at the MAX. There is also a busy baby yoga class (mom and child) at Focus Yoga studio in Brookfield. There is Dance Center of LaGrange that has pre-ballet on tuesdays for children 2.5 - 3.5 years. I think that one is actually without parent, from waht my friend told me. There is soccer at Chicago Sports Zone in Melrose Park for kids 18 mos and up.

These are just some of the under 3 activities I've found (my daughter will be 3 in Nov, so it's been a challenge finding classes for her age this fall).

As far as playgroups, I'm goign to look through my past posts on here because I asked the same question and there are a few in LaGrange, but I can't remember where htey were (we ended up meeting a lot of people through the YMCA and never went).

Another option is to check out your local and the surrounding park districts for classes. I know LaGrange Park, LaGrange and Brookfield all have good offerings. Brookfield is limited, though people have said nice things about hte classes. LaGrange has a lot of classes and activities and outings.

We found some great playgroups through meetup.com. You can look on there to find playgroups in your area. I know the Chicago ones, have activities every day if you wanted to do that.

Hi -

PAV YMCA (on Oak Park Ave in Berwyn) offers a few moms and tots classes for tumbling and swimming: http://pavymca.org/

These is also a MyGym in River Forest (on Lake Street) with classes for parents and toddlers: http://www.my-gym.com/franchisee.asp?gymid=27

If you haven't checked out the Hammil Family Play Zoo at Brookfield yet, it's perfect for fighting cabin fever.

You should check to see if there is a local Newcomer's Club (many communities have them). Usually, they have playgroups as well as events for the adults.

Through Meetup.com I found the Oak Park and Beyond Moms group, they meet all the time, many times a week, all different locations. It would be good for you. It didn't work for me because I work and most events were during weekdays. But if I ever quit (keeping my fingers crossed!) I absolutely would join this meetup group.

There's a new Gymboree location in Glen Ellyn, right off of I 355 on Roosevelt Rd. It's not extremely close but my 2 yr old son and daughter love the place.
