Looking for Nursery "Theme" Ideas!

Hi K.....someone below mentioned Uppercase Living. I actually am a consultant and have used the product in my own daughter's nursery. We have a variety of things you can choose from, and the great thing about it is, as your son/daughter gets older, you can just take it off the wall and it will not take the paint off! Uppercaseliving is word walls/expressions. You can spell a name, create your favorite quote in a design of your choice. I am a little OCD when it comes to decorating/design and I found my daughter's bedding online at a company called Javis Davis (www.javisdavis.com). They have AMAZING fabrics and prints and put them together beautifully.

They have traditional, vintage, modern, etc. You may even get some "theme" accessory ideas from their fabrics. They hand sew all of the bedding sets and are very easy to work with (southern ladies out of Alabama).

I think vintage is really in now, subdued colors and vintage prints of older nursery rhyme characters.

I was gonna say Dr. Seuss too! I wish that had been out with my kids! We read him all the time, so it would've been really neat!!!

I think the land of nod does really creative things. Look there for ideas.

A great source to surf is http://www.ohdeedoh.com/. They offer nursery tours of "real people's" nurseries. Some are quite posh and some are on a budget. It's a great place to look at color combinations and see how parents really personalize their baby's space. You won't find any licensed characters, but can find ideas that will grow with your child/children so that you won't have to re-paint in 2 years!

Go to www.etsy.com and do a search for baby bedding, pictures, etc. It is an independent arts and crafts site where thousands of people worldwide sell the things they make and there are some really quality and unique items. Pretty much anything you can think of is sold there.

For my next child, I plan on doing an all natural color palette with muted shades of blues, beiges, and yellow with some ivory. I want to add a small mural painting on one wall of a tree with a birdsnest full of babies and the mother flying in. I thought keeping it simple this time would allow me to change things as my child grows. I did use land of nod's "womb with a view" bedding, which is unisex depending on how you decorate the walls and such. We added some circus flags on the ceiling with some vintage circus posters and it turned out adorable. Adding your own touches on anything will make it unique, have fun!

For my son's room we did lighthouses and boats. We have a fish tank in his room and we found a lighthouse bedding set online. This was before light houses were popular but now Wal-Mart sells them. We painted a border around his room of boats, dolphins, lighthouses, and anchors. It's really cute and unique.

Tyr the Angel or cherub them thye always make the most angelic scenary. If you also add a touch of nature scenes as well it will make a calm relaxing environmentfor not just the baby but for his/her caretakers as well. Paint clouds, rivers, waterfalls, angels, cherubs, trees e,t,c. Hope this helps. Oh yeah you can even do the safari scene that is always cute in a nursery. You could have animals painted on the walls and leave open face areas to graudually add pictures of the baby and the rest of the family.

Pottery Barn has a new Dr. Seuss line - totally cute and unisex. If you don't want to go broke buying the whole line, you could just get the crib sheet and mix/match it with matching solid bumpers and crib skirt(if you use them). Finally, you might be able to do a google search for Dr. Seuss wallpaper border, place it about chair rail height, leave the top part of the walls white, and paint the bottom parts of the walls in red, yellow, blue, green. On the top parts of the walls, you could stencil quotes or lines from his books.

I'm not sure what all is out there, but google for throw pillows, mobiles, curtains (or just get cheaper, solid ones to match). You could paint wood letters in the baby's initials in primary colors as well.

I would love to do this theme, but if we have another boy we are going to geek it up super huge and do a Star Wars theme at dad's request and if it is a girl then we're going with a pink and green motif as a nod to my sorority colors.

Currently our son has a University of Illinois nursery and it is awesome!

we did a patriotic theme for both our children. Red, white and blue, stars, the whole bit. It was fun and easy to do. We are very "American" and the 4th of July is our favorite holiday so it made sense for us.
