I taught 7th and 8th graders for 10 years. Now I am nearing the time to go back to work. I can't do the career I loved because I can't be the A+ teacher and be an A+ mom. So, I am looking at the feilds of dietician or corporate training. I am open to other ideas, but I also want to know if any of you other mom's have some advice. Have you had careers in these feilds? Do you have a career you think an ex middle level English teacher would be a good fit? I have enough time to obtain another grad degree if needed, so I am open!! Please help shed some ideas or light on my ideas!!

What can I do next?

Have you ever thought about "knowledge Points"? My daughter goes there for tutoring. They are very awesome and I believe only take great teachers.. I'm not sure how much they pay, but you can always check it out.
My daughter goes to the one in Colleyville and the Director is Millynn.
I'll throw this out there as well. My husb. and I have a home-based business and we do this full time. Well, our full time is about 15 hours a week. If you are interested you can check out our website. It is free to watch and you might like it.
Blessings on your new adventure..

Have you thought about teaching at a prep school?
One of my friends only works 2 days a week...
That way you are still using your very useful skills? Or even a a college?
I bet you have more options with that degree...

K.,

This is such a great time in your life staying home with your children....I agree with the other moms that you can have your own home based business or maybe teach with home school children...maybe Lucus Academy or enrichment classes close to your home.

The advantage to a home based business is that you can choose your hours to work...there are so many to choose from...pick something that you enjoy:)

You could consider teaching classes to homeschool students. I know that there are moms who teach classes at Home Educators Resource in Lewisville. The parents pay a monthly fee (set by you) for the class and you pay HER a percentage. I had a friend who worked there so this is about all I know. This is just one place that came to mind.

I would also think you could offer tutoring services in general.

There is a course on Oprah.com that helps you figure out what to do with your life so you can follow your dreams. They said that 85% of people are unhappy in thier careers. Take the course and see where it leads you, you may be good as a personal tutor, or working at a place like Cook Children's helpng children with speech, etc. My son's speech therapist is an ex teacher and loves what she is doing now. I hope everything thing works out and you find your dream career.

Hey K.!

I just asked a similar question, however, I am looking to get a degree, although I hate to put in the 2-3 years it will take & not be working. However, I have checked into majoring in English because I love writing. Have you thought about free-lance writing? Proofing and editing jobs? With your English experience, you could do well at that and some pay really well. Good luck!

I am a middle/high school teacher as well so this is something I have thought about quite a bit! If you have a master's degree you could teach at a community college. I wanted to be available for my family and have something of my 'own'. That is why I chose to work from home! If that is something you are open to, feel free to visit my website at www.myfamilymyfuture.com.

Cleburne Community Christian School is hiring a K3 teacher, and a K4 teacher. Teacher's children get half off of tuition, which normally only runs about $400/month per child, so it would be half that! If you are interested, go to www.cleburnecommunitychristianschool.org or call ###-###-####.
