Looking for Natural/organic Baby Products
Hi,
My 1 yr old is extrememly sensitive to all baby washes and lotions. The only one that I have tried that doesn't break her out in little bumps is Earth's Best organic lotion and wash. I love the results and I know it is great for her, but it is terribly expensive, around $9 for a 7 oz bottle. So, I am wondering if anyone knows of any other natural or organic products that may be a bit more affordable? Thanks! R.
So What Happened?™
Thank you everyone for your great responses, I really appreciate all of the adivce, recommendations and the congrats on finishing law school as well!

Both of my children have eczema and we have been through many many products to get to where we are. My son now takes a bath with just water (no soap unless he needs it after a day at the park and then it is unscented dove)and we use a paul mitchtell baby shampoo (dermatologist recomended it)cause the shampoo will dry out the skin as well when it is rinsed out of the childs hair. For treatment we use what is called desonide (prescription).

Try only bathing twice a week. Babies and toddlers do not need to be bathed frequently. There faces, hands and butts are always being cleaned anyway. My kids have great skin and I only use lotion after twice a week bathing, which also saves on money. Also use as little soap or bath product as you can or even just a good soak and scrub with a cloth.

have you tried using dr bronner's soap and then organic virgin coconut oil as a moisturizer - coconut oil is the best moisturizer anyone could use!

Have you tried washing her with a fragrance-free bar soap like Cetaphil or Basis? My pediatrician recommended that because the bars have fewer allergy-producing ingredients than liquids. You can use the bar soaps on her hair too (unless she has a whole lot of it, I suppose). I used Aquaphor for lotion for my son. Its also fragrance-free and a really thick, good moisturizer. You can get it at Target and a big tub is about $15 - the tub lasts for months, though, so it doesn't work out to be too expensive.
Congrats on finishing law school! I'm a lawyer myself and can't imagine how challenging it would be to have one child, another on the way and be trying to finish your third year. Enjoy the break before the bar.

I think the vanicream bars as well as lotions work very well. Snyder's sells them and I am sure other places do as well.

My son has eczema and our daily bath routine includes the following;
Johnson's Head to Toe Baby Wash
(his medicated cream for his "rough" spots)
then either Aveeno Baby Daily Moisture Lotion or
Mustela Hydra-Bebe Lotion
I don't know if these would work for you, you could check them out though. The Mustela stuff is a little pricey so we mostly go with the Aveeno lotion. We haven't had any huge problems using the Johnson's Wash...we also use the Johnson's Shampoo for him. I feel the pain in your wallet though because if our son has a bad flair up we have to get the more expensive stuff and it really adds up. It seems like the less chemicals they put in the stuff the more expensive it is (seems backwards to me).

Hi R.,
Daisy Blue Naturals has a great line of baby care products. They are 100% natural and work wonderfully. Here is the site of the person I order from: www.4028.daisybluenaturals.com. Her name is Jill and I think they are having a sale on all lotions this month.

My little one has really sensitive skin as well. Have you heard of Arbonne International (www.wellbeauty.myarbonne.com)? They have a baby care line and this was the only product we tried that didn't cause her to break out in red bumps everywhere. Good Luck.

We love these products too and just grin and bear the price. I can't seem to find any other wash without that nasty sodium laurel/laureth sulfate which is a really harsh cleanser. We also like the Burt's Bees Baby lotion (no drying alcohol :)) and wash, however their products are equally expensive.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help accept to agree with you-- expensive?--yes, but worth every penny!

My son is extremely sensitive and has been so all of his life (almost 4). We have always used California Baby products, which are only slightly less pricey than what you're using, but we cut them with water and they go a bit farther (available at drugstore.com and local coops). They don't suds much when cut, but he gets clean anyway - including sandbox sand and river mud. They also have a nice bubble bath. They have some scented and unscented products and are the only one in which the scented products don't make him break out. For all our laundry, including cloth diapers when he wore them, we used Biokleen, which is available at drugstore.com (you can search for the brand) and at some of the coops. Now when he breaks out, we know he's used something else at preschool or at a neighbor's.
