I'm looking to do a monkey theme for my son's first b-day. I have been searching for months and can't find what I am looking for. I don't like the curious george or the mod monkey themes....I am really just looking for plain brown monkey faced plate to build my theme around. Then I could add yellows for bananas and browns etc. I thought finding something as sinple as a plate would be easy! I've found some really cute melamine monkey face plates on ebay but they are super expensive and only had 2 or 4 plates. Can anyone help??
Thanks everyone!! I am going to look on Martha's website....I tried oriental trading and didn't like anything there...saw the mod monkey and it's okay but not what I am looking for. Think I will do either bananas or banana bread as favors..thought I could attach a little tag or sticker that says turning one was fun, glad you could come!
I wasn't a huge fan of the happy monkey or jungle monkey, looking for a regular ol brown monkey. I will def use all the advice, thanks everyone again :)

Oh I love monkeys! There are cheap animal face plates that are round with 2 ears sticking out (mickey mouse shaped). I've seen them at Wal-Mart. They have an assortment of animals, I think a monkey was one of them - so if nothing else you could always buy a couple packs and pull out the monkeys for the party and use the others later? Sounds like fun!

How many are you looking for? If its not way too many, Giant has the paper plates that are in the shape of assorted animals. Usually there are 3-4 monkey plates in each pack of 12 I think it is. You could but a few packs of those and each pack is relatively inexpensive, only a dollar or 2 each pack and you could use the rest sometime later anyway. Good luck. Or try Party City. They usually have everything.

I soooo feel your pain. I usually try to avoid anything commercial for a party and thus can never find what I want. Look at oriental trading company and target. I think target has some melamine plates with at least a jungle theme, but they might be expensive as you mentioned.

What I suggest is just use brown/yellow/green paper plates, and save your time, effort, and money on other decorations. You could buy some stuffed monkeys to sit on the the table surrounded by bananas and then gie them as favors. Cut out big green leaves to create a jungle, and hang monkeys from vines. And banana cake? That is the flavor we had for both my girls' first birthdays (themes were butterflys and penguins)

It's a really cute idea - have fun.

At one time the Martha Stewart line at Micheals had a Monkey birthday party kit with all kinds of cute stuff. It may have been discontinued by now, but you might find it on ebay/craiglist or even on the clearance aisle at the store or her website.

Hefty makes a product for kids called Zoo Pals. They are sold at places like Walmart or the grocery stores and I believe there is a Monkey in the pack. However, they are an assortment of zoo animals so I don't know how many you would have to buy just to get enough monkeys for your party. You can see the design here: http://zoopals.pactiv.com/ZPPlates/index.htm just click the "collections" link. I remember using them once and they did have monkeys in the pack but I would buy one just to be sure and then purchase additional packs. The upside is that we can always use paper plates so you will eventually use up the other animals too.

Birthday Express also carries a design called "Mod Monkey" and I think it's cute. Here is a link http://www.birthdayexpress.com/browse/_/N-i/Ntt-monkey/re...

Good Luck and Happy Birthday to your little one.

Zoo pals paper plates have monkey faces in the pack. However you can not tell how many are in the pack. There are other animals in the pack (koala, frog, turtle, panda, fox, fish) that you may be able to incorpate into a jungle/animal theme. I found the plates at Target.

I'm a big DIY buff, so my suggestion is to make your own. Pick up some cheap white plastic plates at Walmart and some acrylic paints and then make your own monkey plates. That way you know you're getting exactly what you want. If you need help with the art work then just search the internet for a pic of what you want to do. Print out a bunch of the same picture, then glue them to the plastic plates and coat with an clear acrylic.

I'm sure there are tons of other ways to manufacture what you want, but this seems like the easiest.

I was at our SuperFresh grocery store (in Salisbury, MD) today and saw some plates (I think some had monkeys on them) in the sale/clearance bin. If you want me to, I can go there tomorrow (I go shopping just about every day) and maybe take a pic of them with my camera phone and email it to you if you'd like. If you like them, I'd even be willing to buy them and mail them to you....it's no biggie for me. :-) Not sure when the party is but I can get them to you fast. Let me know. You can email me at ____@____.com luck! :-)

There are, beleive it or not, paper plates called zoo pals that you can get at just about anystore (Wal-MArt grocery) that have brown monkey faces and the ears are like little snack holder areas or for dipping condiments and they are cheap. Good luck and congrata on celebrating your little ones first b-day!

Oh and check out some of your craft sections you may also be able to find a Monkey face cake pan they are easy to use and come with decoration guides.
