Looking for Mesa/Gilbert Area OB/GYN Who Does VBAC

I had my beautiful baby girl by C-section. She was breech, and we scheduled the C. I want to have my next baby vaginally (no baby on the way yet, just a twinkle in our eyes). Though I like my OB/GYN, she does VBAC very rarely (just a couple a year). I was told it all depends on how long my labor is, because the Dr. has to be at the hospital the whole time during labor. Thus, I could very likely end up in a C-section again. I really want to avoid surgery because of the long recovery. Does anyone have an OB that will do a VBAC?

What can I do next?

Hi T.! I am an L & D nurse so I can dispell the myth that your Dr. has to stay at the hospital the whole time...that is absolutely not true. The trick is that you have to deliver at a hospital that has a 24 hour OB Anesthesiologist on the floor and available for an emergent c-section if needed. I would highly recommend Southwest Women's Care, specifically Dr. Wilson. They deliver @ Banner Desert and are very versed in higher risk cases, including VBACs. If you don't mind traveling a bit into Central Phoenix, my personal OB is Dr. Johnstone @ Central Phx OB/GYN. She practices @ Banner Good Sam, and I can tell you personally that we do a very high volume of VBACs, many very successfully. Good luck!

I go to Comprehensive Women's Health Care in Gilbert. Gilbert/Guadalupe. I see Dr. Joel Falk. I really like him and he seems very progressive to me. So you should give him a call ###-###-####

I had the same thing happened. I changed OB/GYN with the second and I was going to have him naturally, but he was to big 10 lb 15 oz and was 3 weeks early! I ended up having him c-section. But his name is Dr. Daniel Doswell with University OB/GYN. He is on Higley and Baseline. He is a great dr. and I would recommend him to everyone!

T., try Dr. Brass. http://www.trueharmonywellness.com/services_list.html You'll see on her list of services that she lists VBAC. She's amazing and very holistic but not afraid to use medicine too. She also works with a great doula Jessical Wild who I believe could assist you with that as well. Plus, she's had a VBAC herself. http://www.jessicawild.com/ Good luck!

You might try Dr. Brass-Jones; here's her website:

She's very natural-childbirth-friendly.

For goodness sake try your best for a VBAC, because there are almost NO doctors willing to take a twice-over caesarean mom who wants a VBAC for #3.

Good luck!!!!!

Hi there!
I did a VBAC in Jan. 2006 and it was SO amazing. I went to Donna Tash who used to have an office in Mesa that closed. AND I had to have my VBAC at Phoenix Baptist on 19th Ave. & Bethany Home because I could not find ANYONE in the east valley that could convince me that they would "let" me have a VBAC. A lot of them claimed they would but I could tell I was being set up for a c-section. Here is her info. Donna Tash, St. joseph's midwifery service 500 W. Thomas Rd. Ste. 800 Phx, 85013, ###-###-####.
Oh yes, Please read "Silent Knife", it was a godsend!!
Good Luck!

Hi T., like the L&D nurse said, it's not your dr. who has to stay there 24 hours, it's the hospital who has the staff available 24/7 to handle an emergency c-section if necessary. I was induced with my first and after a very prolonged labor with virtually no progress, we decided on a c-section. I was interested in trying for a VBAC with my second and went to see Dr. Paul Mikel at Life Care for Women at Val Vista and Baseline. He was more than willing to work with me on having a VBAC if I so chose, but his policy was to not induce after having a c-section as that raises the risk substantially. I really liked the fact that I saw him for each of my visits and not another doc (he shares the practice with one other) or a nurse practioner. Here's a link to his website - http://www.lifecareforwomen.com/obstetrics.html. Good luck on your decision and future healthy baby!

No doctor should ever perform an unnecessary procedure just to save time. That's awful. I had Dr. Goodman his office is in the parking lot of Chandler Regional. Address is south Arizona Ave Country Club and Frye. I was living in mesa at the time and it was not too far to Travel. I was high risk and he was great the entire time. My daughter was a preemie and they took excellent care of us both. The prospect of C-section never even came up because it was not necessary. Chandler regional provides private rooms and your newborn can stay with you all night. They will only take him/her away if you are sleeping and have no one else with you or for tests. I am in Phoenix and if i ever have another i think i would still go to same doc.

The second time recovering is a snap compared to the first. I had 2 c sections and 1 VBAC, I worried more about the risks involved with the VBAC than I did with the surgery. Good luck.

Sorry I don't have a referral, but I do want to encourage you. I know a woman that had her first via c-section, then had 6 more VBAC!!! Wow! Best wishes, I hope you find one and enjoy your baby.

How about Tempe? Dr Linnerson at Contemporary Care for Women did my VBAC. My little guy turned breech on his due date and Dr. Linnerson even turned him so I could have him naturally. I know it can be risky- but my DR. is top notch and all went really well for me!

Dr. Linnerson at Contemporary Care For Women on Guadalupe and McClintock is fantastic! He's been my OB/GYN for 7 years and he delivered my son. His assistant, Michele, is also great. I highly recommend him. Check out their website at www.careforwomen.net. I wouldn't go to any other doctor. Good luck!

I had my first C-section and my other two were v-back. My doctor was Dr. Sydney Semrad. I really like him and I especially like his PA Dawn. My doctor was not at the hospital for my whole labor. they called him to come in when I got close enough for delivery. I believe the current fashion is once a C-section always a C-section. This has more to do with the cost of malpractice insurance and how much risk a Dr. is willing to take.

Good luck and I hope you find someone.
