Looking for McKinney Area Volunteer Site Serving on Thanksgiving

Hey moms! I'm looking for an agency or shelter that might need volunteers to serve a Thanksgiving meal as a service opportunity for my family. I'd like my kids to understand that there are many people in need right in our community. Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Based on all the responses I think my family and I will bring food to fire/police first responders that have to work on Thanksgiving. Thanks everyone!

The Saturday or Sunday before Thanksgiving (I never remember which it is, and I've been doing this several years! Ugh!) Bigheart minidtris will be serving a Thanksgiving Banquet in front of Dallas City Hall. We set up tables and serve our quests restaurant style so it's not just another soup line. You can check out Bigheartministries.net for more info. there is not current is still up - we serve 4 banquets a year) but you can see pictures from last Christmas, and in the middle of the page where it says "details here" you can click and see what the schedule was for 4th of July - it's about the sae every banquet. My husband and I have been serving for several years, and our 5 and 7 year olds help out a little too.

I think God's Food Pantry in Plano (just east of 75) does one but I am not sure if it is on Thanksgiving or a few days before- I just got an email about it from our church so you might contact them.

Hi L.,
The Samaritan Inn will not be having food servers on Thanksgiving day. They will have someone provide the funds for the meal that day ($300). If you try now, you may be able to volunteer at the Salvation Army. Unfortunately, I believe you wiill have a difficult time finding somewhere to serve on Thanksgiving Day, but most agencies are in need of help all times of the year. I am sure you could find a spot before or after Thanksgiving, or maybe even in August when they might have less volunteers.
Good Luck

There are several good ministries that serve to the Dallas County. Samaritan Inn is great but not sure they will let you serve. It is a mission w/ our church and we used to serve, but now we are only allowed to bring the food.

Another thought that our church did last year was take donuts to our first responders. Police and fireman who work on the days that we are home with our families.

Please keep us posted - I have wanted to do this for years with our kids and they are finally 4th and 7th grade who I think will understand.
