Hello Moms! We are looking to move out of Chicago next year into a nearby suburb. Does anyone have any good or bad things to share about the schools and neighborhoods in Niles and/or Skokie? We are considered the part of Niles that shares a school district with Park Ridge or the area of Skokie that goes to Fairview South. We are hoping to find a neighborhood that is a good fit for our family, so I would appreciate any and all info, either here in or in a private message. Thanks for anything you are willing to share!

we were in the same boat 3 years ago, and ended up moving to Glenview - and I couldn't be happier! We are in the south end, bordering Morton Grove, which is another great village. We looked at a lot of homes in Niles and Des Plaines, but felt it was kind of hit-or-miss with a good neighborhood and good schools - most were fine but a few weren't so great. Our area in Glenview is the perfect fit for us, we are in a more diverse neighborhood which has a great balance of different cultures, incomes, etc, and it is a very nice, safe area. The schools are amazing too, we did extensive research before buying here and were very pleased.

Hi! Have you giving any thought to Skokie? Great schools and normal people. No feeling like you need to keep up with the Jone's. All the schools are great, but I would stay out of D.69, I've heard some issues with school funding b/c of section 8 housing and lots of apt. buildings. All others are great!

good luck!

I live in Park Ridge and have many friends (including from the Niles area that feeds into PR schools), but can only think of a very few who belong to the Country Club. They are by far the exception, not the rule, and still nice, friendly people. One thing to be aware of living in Niles and attending schools in PR is that (I'm pretty sure) you don't belong to the same park district, so if the kids want to attend park district programs with their PR school friends, you have to pay nonresident fees.

HaHa. Thanks for the chuckle. I grew up in the area of Niles you are talking about & we never belonged to the country club & frankly never knew anyone who did. It's a great neighborhood, amazing community.
Lots of Polish people in the area, if that is a plus for you.
Niles has an amazing park district, lots of kids programs they also have brand new pools and new library with great kids programs.
Bad things? Honestly I don't know any.
Des Plaines is good too, but I really don't know as much but have heard the same things.
