Looking for Infant Daycare in East Dallas This Spring

My first baby is due in March and I'm planning to return to work full time by May or June. I don't have any friends with babies in this area so I need help finding reliable daycare for this new addition to our family. I don't think I have a preference between in home care and a facility or school. We live in the Lakewood/Lake Highlands area.

What can I do next?

There are a couple I can recommend. I don't know where you work, but I live in East Dallas near White Rock Lake. I teach early childhood music & movement classes at various daycares, preschools and mother's day out facilities in the area. The two that I highly recommend for infant care are 1) Dallas Day School at 4242 Office Parkway off Haskell Avenue near Cityplace. There number is ###-###-#### and Director is Freida Apodaca. 2) White Rock United Methodist Discovery Center at 1450 Old Gate Lane near the Arboretum. Their number is ###-###-#### and Director is Sonia. Only problem is they are only open 4 days a week in the fall and close for summer break. Dallas Day School would be best for full time care, 5 days a week.

Hi E.,
I live in LH and my son loves LH Presby daycare. They have a brand new building, and have been in business for 44 years. Some of the kids there now, are because thier parents went when they were little. Some of the care providers ahve been there for 10 plus years, and they are state accredited. I even get a notice when Kevin's next immunizations are due by state standards.
Mary M. is in the infant room, and we even use her as a home babysitter in the evenings. She is fabulous!
LH Presby is located at Audelia and Northwest Hwy, across from the police station. You can walk in any day and ask questions and look around.
They charge $30 for 5 hours, $35 for 7 hours, and I don't know about more hours. The price is cut in half when the child reaches 18 months....and that really is a great deal!
Another friend uses Wilshire Baptist on Abrams and loves it too...so I recommend you just stop in at both places and talk to the administrators and teachers.
In home babysitters/nannys charge about $10 to $12 per hour.
If you are a member of a church, send an email to the Moms association asking for advice also.
And join the local Early Childhood PTA. Lakewood and Lake Highlands each have one. Its a great way to meet other moms, and network on questions you may have...like which Pediatrician to use. They also have social programs for kids ages 5 and under...like Halloween carnival, Christmas party, and Eater egg hunt.
I can get you more info about this if you are interested if you email me at

Good Luck!

E., Depending on where you work, check out Childtime on Hedgcoxe. They are between Plano and Frisco. I always like to have my kids closer to my work. That way if there is a problem I'm closer to them. This place has the best of all the baby rooms, and I've checked out many. They have older ladies working in the room. The staff have been there a long time. They are clean, friendly and homey. Good luck with your search.

Hi E.,
I have two recommendations- One is the big Lutheran church on Northwest Highway next to Lowe's, just West of Jupiter. I have frineds who use them and just love them. Another one that I have heard really good reviews on Peavy Road, between Garland and Northlake. I think it is called Baby Steps. My neighbor was going to go back to work and went there and really loved them.
Good Luck!

We also live in Lakewood (moving to grand prairie next year) and have been going to a mothers day out at church of incarnation for almost 2 years now (since my daughter was 6 months). LOVE IT!!! They arent the fanciest place, but they are extremely caring, sincere, and really do a great job with the kids. I know several others families in the area that go there. They are very flexible and you can pay per number of days your child goes from 1 up to 5. . . well worth checking into . . .Anna is the director at ###-###-#### and they are located off of 75 and fitzhugh. Good Luck and congrats on joining the wonderful (although crazy at times) world of motherhoood!
