Hi I live in East Mesa. I work full time, looking to take my twin boys to indoor activites that are cheap or free on weekends. The enjoy gymboree type of places (but thats too expensive for us!) Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

I know what you are talking about with the gymboree they are expensive. I try to take my kids to the mall playlands- they are just as much fun or if you are looking for something just for them to play with I found a 6 in 1 playland thing that is 30.00 at Costco and my kids love it!! Its just like taking her to Gymboree but at home. I also like way to play cafe- that is a great play. Try going to a website called www.azactivekids.com and they always have great stuff you can do for cheap or even free things to do.

My son loved Artville at Arizona Museum for Youth in downtown Mesa. It can get pretty costly because you have to pay per child and it is $5 per person.

If we want to stay indoors we usually go to Superstition Springs Mall and ride the carousel and get an ice cream cone afterwards. My kids beg to go to the mall now!

Here are a few other suggestions that cost money, but are really fun!

Mesa Southwest Museum
Arizona Firefighters Museum in Tempe/Phoenix (It is by the zoo)
Arizona Science Center
Makutu's Island
Arizona Puppet Theater

A couple of places that I like to take my son are the Arizona Museum for Youth in Mesa and Toy Town in Awatukee. These are both very fun places. Here are the websites so you can check them out.

SINCE YOU said you're looking for free or cheap, here are a few suggestions that we like:***the play area at fiesta mall is close to you and free, and it's a great way for kids to interact and you to relax. Your teenager can also walk around the mall while the little ones play. They have a play area in in the Chandler mall too.
*** Barnes and Noble's usually has storytime on the weekends. ** Your local library prob has reading time too. They tend to do a story, an activity, and a craft. I live in Fountain Hills so you'd have to check your local branch

** As a suggestion, If you can spend any money, getting a membership at the zoo is worth it. YOu can combine going there with a book , playing, and running (if he walks). If you go early, you'll be able to get to see a lot of the feedings (between 8 and 9. That is something you could do 2x a month easy. The kids would be free so a basic membership is 50 or so.

hope it helps

I sometimes take my son to McDonalds at snack time. We order the yogurt parfaits for a pretty healthy snack for $1 each and then he can play for as long as he likes in their play area. You can "shop around" for the McDonalds close to you with the best play area.

As mentioned previously, the malls are a good place to go but the play areas are usually really crowded in the summer.

If your boys enjoy story time, check out your local bookstores. The Barnes and Noble near me has story time at 11:00 every Saturday. They post the dates/times for the different stores on their website. They also have the Thomas train tables at Barnes and Noble so my son gets to play with that for a while too.

I've never been there but I've been told by others that the Bass Pro Shop is a cool place to take kids. They supposedly have a big aquarium that the kiddos would probably enjoy looking at.

Again, I've never been, but Changing Hands Bookstore in Tempe has some really cool looking story times on Saturdays. Check out their website for dates and themes.
