Looking for Great Travel Destination for Thanksgiving Weekend
Hi ladies,
I am looking for a travel destination for Thanksgiving time. I have 2 kids, ages 11 and 8, so not babies. We love the warm weather, but with air fare so high right now we aren't interested in flying. We do Florida every spring and the Wisconsin Dells twice a year. We are looking for someplace with great pools/waterparks as well as other fun activities. Any advice as to where we can go???
Thanks so much!
D.

I was going to suggest the Mall of America as well. The waterparks in the hotels are cool there. And, the mall itself has tons for kids that age to do- amusement park, build your own race car type thing, etc. And, you can get some shopping in as well. Not too bad a of a drive from here.

Minneapolis is a great place to go. They have lots of indoor water parks with hotels there, just like Wisconsin Dells. Mall of America too.

I am from Michigan and my family is still there, so we go to Michigan a lot for mini vacations. My daughter is only 2 and loves waterparks. Recently we went to Frankenmuth and stayed at the new Zehnder's hotel/waterpark. We had a great time, and I love Frankenmuth so we went to Bronner's and walked down main street. By Thanksgiving they will most likely be totally decked out for Christmas. They have horse carriage rides, a petting zoo, etc.
If you head further north in Michigan, closer to Traverse City and such, there are much bigger waterparks though that are much more popular, including a Great Wolf Lodge. Traverse City may have more things that your 8 and 11 year old would be interested in. Also, Boyne is a ski resort and also has a large waterpark, Avalanche Bay. I have not been there but I have heard great things about it. I am not a skiier but I think that by Thanksgiving the ski resort will be open as well, if your kids are interested in that.
Good Luck,
D.

I'd like to put in a word for Washington, D.C. It's cheap because all the museums and monuments are FREE!! The weather is mild, maybe not balmy, but certainly not as cold as the midwest. You could find a hotel with an indoor pool and be all set! And, if you're driving, it's only 1 1/2 days to get there, all you need is one night in a hotel in Ohio on the way out.
