Looking for Great Photo Location (Not a Studio and Not a Garden Setting)
I am interested in a referral for a great location to take some photos of my preschool children. I have a photographer and just need to find the right place - preferably in or relatively near Plano. I'd like photos outside an old building, with an old but pretty doorway, or in the hall of a loft style building with a big window and hardwood floods. basically something other than a studio or outdoor flower scenario. All suggestions are appreciated. If you have a suggestion - please let me know if there is a cost involved in using the location. Thanks!

So What Happened?™
I took Jenny M's advice: "Frisco Heritage Museum at the Tollway and Main St. in Frisco. It has so many diverse background options. I've taken my own kids pics, family pics, friends pics there. It is next to a Babe's whose exterior is awesome. There are some great metal doors, stone walls, wooden fences. The museum has a cool black locomotive that you can't get on but can pose near for great pics, and a lot of old small clapboard houses with great steps and porches"
Great advice - thanks! The Cotton Mill in McKinney charges $50/hr to rent and I decided to go for a free location. We took them on an overcast day (that always is best - no squinting). Thanks for all the suggestions!

If you would like, I could send you some of the pics that I have taken there to show you the background choices. I am not a photographer, just a hobbyist so I am not trying to sell you my services at all. Just thought I would show you some examples of the environment.

I know you said you'd like to stay near Plano, but I wanted to suggest you take them in Deep Ellum. It is great for what you are describing. Lots of bright doors, interesting walls, etc... My regular photographer loves to take pics of kids and families down there. Check out some examples at www.squaresvillestudios.com
Good Luck, A.

Strange as it may sound, we have gotten some great pictures of my kids outside of a Babe's restaurant. We like both the Sanger and Carrolton location, but from what I can recall, Carrolton had more to offer. Like the back of an old truck, or some fun wooden chairs. There are lots of older looking items around the outside, so you might have some luck..and dinner afterwards:) Have fun looking! ~A.~

The Eiseman Center in Richardson is a good place for some more industrial type photos. My husband and I did some engagement pictures there and they turned out good. We used the fountain in the front and then steps and different levels inside the Eiseman Center itself. The pictures turned out really cool.

How about just outside the train museum in old Plano. http://www.plano.gov/Departments/parksandrecreation/recen...
I took some shots with my little brother and it came out really nice.
I'm sure there are more shots you can find in that area than just the train, like the depot with the bench. Some of the older buildings as well.

Firewheel Town Center is nice. It is in the middle of Firewheel Mall A. outdoor mall and has a running brook, with a large grassy play area, and children's play area, and a big fountain.
