Looking for Good Quality Receiving Blankets.

I am pregnant with my 3rd child and due any day now. My other two children were born in late winter so I swaddeled them with fleece blankets that had some stretch in them and kept them swaddeled. Since this baby is going to be born in the hot summer I need a lighter blanket to swaddle with. I can't seem to find a light weight blanket or receiving blanket that feels like is has some stretchiness in it to help the baby stay swaddled. Any suggestions?

I found some great, oversized swaddling blankets online at www.AllBabyandMom.com. They are made out of muslin cotton, so they are light weight and perfect for summer. My son was born last summer, and my sister recommended these swaddling blankets. I still use them to this day, because they are big and work as a shade to cover the stroller, etc... They are stretcy as well. AnywAY, I hope this helps.

My son is 5 weeks and I thought the same thing about swaddling blankets, but then I realized we keep our AC temp between 78-80. What I usually do is keep him in either a onesie or just a diaper and then put him in the Kiddopotamus Swaddle-Me(Babies-R-Us) at night. Even right now he's sleeping next to me swaddled in it. They also come in different fabrics:

When we're out and about I have used the Carter's First Year blanket at Target, it's not flannel-like but cotton-like and it was around $5-6, I got the frogs one. It's the same fabric as the Gymboree blanket, but Gymboree's blanket was like $24.50.

The swaddle me's work great, but at $25 a pop!! Not worth it. The Koala brand at Babies r us. are bigger then carters or gerber. They are great. For my 4th my mom just went to the fabric store and bought flannel and made me recieving blankets. She made them really big, and even at 9 months can be swaddled in her swing (never at this age in her bed just incase she flipped over). I think she made them 42" by 42". Do you know anyone crafty?

Have you tried the SwaddleMe swaddle blankets? They are all ready for you to wrap with velcro to hold them together. They came in a light cotton. This is what I use on my infant and this is the only way I can get him to sleep is by swaddling him up. He is 4 months old now and i am trying to break him of needing this to sleep.
They sell them at Babies R' Us for like $10.00.
Hopefully this helps...Good Luck!

Our daughter was born in May and we liked the "waffle weave" receiving blankets. Found them at Target & Babies R Us. We liked the larger size too, 34 x 40.

Hey Shelly,

My daughter was born in July of last year and she loved to be swaddled! I used the kiddopautumus ones they carry at Babies R Us, they have 2 versions - a light weight and a heavy fleece. I also used the basic swaddle blankets by both Gerber and George that come in a multi-pack. I liked the George ones better because they were a lot bigger. Hope this helps!

Best, M.

Hi S.,
Congrats on baby #3!!
I like the Koala Baby at Babies R us. But hated the Gerber brand.

We like the waffle-weave ones, like koalababy brand at BRUs -- also they're big enough!
