Looking for Generic Prenatal with DHA

Has anyone had luck finding either a generic prenatal or one of the free prenatal vitamin programs (like at Marsh, Meijer, etc.) that has DHA (the omega-3 fatty acid) in it? I'm trying to avoid taking two pills, but the one I'm on currently (samples from the dr's office) is going to cost me $40 for a 30-day supply.

What can I do next?

Hi E.. I am not aware of a combination prenatal supplement. However, I would like to share that back in August 08, the FDA tested 324 women's and children's vitamins (including prenatal's) and found traces of lead in all but 4 they tested. Unfortunately, the government doesn't provide the same safety guarantees that were recently passed for toys and it is very important to make sure that the vitamins we take are guaranteed and proven safe. You can read about the FDA study and see the list of vitamins on my blog: http://greenmoms4kids.blogspot.com (go back to August 08). Let me know if you would like information on safe alternatives - I would be happy to help you.

oof! I took a multivitamin/multimineral and a fish oil capsule. Meijer, walgreens, Kroger, put them on sale B1G1 all the time. You won't spend $40 on a supply for pregnancy let along per month!

I would NOT take something like Wal-Mart. I've ton about 18 months of reading & research on vitamins and supplements and the companies. You get what you pay for. You'd be much better off (and get more out of it) if you try something like the prenatal from PHARMANEX. You go online to get. A bit more $ but WELL worth the cost. I can CERTAINLY tell the difference than what's over the counter!
Let me know if you have any ?s

Hi E.,

I was able to find one at Walgreens or CVS. I'm almost positive it was Walgreens. It is two pills but it was around $25 for 60 pills which would be less than your drs. office samples. I was never able to find one in the free prenatal vitamin program. Best of luck!

Hmmm...I wasn't aware that DHA was an important ingredient for prenatal vitamins. I know that it is a critical ingredient now added to formulas and baby food...but I was more concerned with finding a prenatal with Folic Acid. You might ask your OB to recommend an OTC vitamin- they should have a good recommendation. I took Meijer brand- had everything I was told to look for.

I couldn't take prenatal vitamins with either of my pregnancies. I ended up taking Flintstone's chewables. :) I'm not certain they have DHA in them, but I wouldn't be surprised. There is another one that you can buy that is a chewable, but I can't remember what it's called.
