I have a curious 3yr old (4 is December) boy who is very interested in playing on the computer. We have several educational computer games for his older sister who is 6yrs old, but no age appropriate for him. He is eager to play and learn and I'd like to encourage his interest in the computer. Does anyone have any suggestions on games or websites that would be good for him and not too expensive for me? Thanks!

Hi, my kids have always liked children's video games for the PC by Humongous, which I believe is owned by Atari now. They have 3 series for kids ages 3-8: Pajama Sam, Freddie Fish, and Putt Putt. The kids have to follow logical series of steps to solve problems and win the game, and they are also very entertaining. Humongous also has a game for children a little older: Spy Fox (at least 2 in this series). I hope you try these games, as they are quite good. :0) Hope this helps!

I would suggest playhouse disney. I subscribed to preschool time online for my 4 year old and she loves it. The games change every two weeks, but are on the level for younger kids. A few things require mom/dad help the first time, but its not long before she's doing it by herself. Price is like 10 a month or 50 for a year.

Hi K.,

I distribute personalized music and storybook CD's for children. My story book CD's are personalized interactive, animated, audio CD story book that automatically reads a story to your child on their computer.

The child gets a greater level of personalization than any other computer game, story or similar product. Each story is personalized using the childs name, ethnicity, gender even hair color and eye color.

The same options can be selected for the mother and father allowing the child to see his/her family unit on the screen as they are entertained and educated.

You get a truly personalized product that allows your child to be the star of the story! Watch as they wiggle and giggle in their seat from making the scenes come to life with each click of the mouse. And be amazed as they learn to read along with this animated story that is read aloud to the child with their name incorporated. The story books will hold your childs attention, allowing the child to use the 3 most powerful of all senses, sight, sound and touch to navigate their way through these animated stories.

Each CD contains 15-20 scenes and mazes and a printable coloring book. Fun for all ages yet geared for children 2-8.

Check out our website www.kiddosdelight.com or e-mail me at ____@____.com

Sincerely,
P.

My son has the Winnie the Pooh computer games. One is for letters and the other is for math/numbers. Both of my boys really loved them and neither were huge Pooh fans. They have lots of really fun games that are very educational and the children at that age can do them! Best of luck, Pam

Hi K.,
This one by reader rabbit is great. you can use it for a 6 month old up to 5 years old at least.
It is Playtime for Baby and Toddler. The nice thing is you can do it with him or he can do it by himself. All he has to do is move the mouse back and forth.
Best Buy would be a good place to buy it. If they don't have it look it up on line under the learning company

I really like jumpstart. I purchase mine at Bestbuy but I am sure you can get them anywhere computer games are sold. They are made age appropriate. My son started using them around the age of your son and he will turn 8 in a few months and still uses Jumpstart. That is one of his favorites.

We used the Reader Rabbit games when my daughter was about his age. They come in various age levels and skill levels so you'll probably find something that interests him.

My son (also 4 in December) loooves Starfall.com as well as some other websites. We have had more luck with just using internet games with the children than purchasing cd-roms that can get broken, scratched, etc. uptoten.com is another fun one.

We also love the Reader Rabbit Series. Also, the Dora the Explorer ones have a couple of levels to grow with him, your daughter may enjoy the higher levels.

Check your Scholastic Book flyers that might come home with your daughter, they often have all age level type stuff.

If you go to Sam's Club or Costco, you can often get multiple games at a great price (then if you don't love all of them, you don't feel like you wasted your money). While you're at it you might look for some typing/keyboarding fun software for your daughter. She'll be way ahead of the game when 3rd grade comes around.

Good luck.

Hey Kristen, my 3 year olf daughter LOVES toplay on the computer. Her favorite websites are www.pbskids.org www.nickjr.com and www.noggin.com Almost every single game there are easy for her to do. Also try www.starfall.com for more educational. She loves that one too and can sit at the computer all by herself and play for atleast a couple hours! I also went to ebay and bought a whole lot of cd rom's to use for her. They all came together and were really cheap. Look it up by searching for the "Living Books" series or Mercer Mayer or the Fisher Price Knowledge Adventure. I hope this helps! Let me know if you find out about any other good ones!!

My daughter LOVES the Reader Rabbit for Baby & Toddler. It is very easy to use - she can do it by herself - and the difficulty level can increase. I got it on Ebay for less than $8 including shipping.
Hope that helps!
