I would like some advice on mexican, chinese, bbq, pizza and other restaurants in the area near Watauga. I'm new to the area and would like to find some good yet not too expensive restaurants for my family to try. We enjoy eating out but we enjoy the "hole in the wall" local places better than chains for the most part. I'd love to hear any advice you have to share. Thanks so much.

We really like Gianni's Pizza on the corner of Western Center and 377. The pizzas are not greasy and very good. We like the BBQ pizza. The pizzas are inexpensive. Even though they are not your traditional pizzas, they are very, very good. My family doesn't eat anything else now. The owners are wonderful people too.

For Mexican, we love Frescos by Harvest Church. The hot sauce has a smokey taste. The food is great and plenty of it.

Taste of Asia on the corner of beach and Basswoood is very good. We moved here last year and so far it is the best asian food we have found so far. The owner is really nice to. Welcome to the area!

Welcome to the Watauga area. I live in North Fort Worth, so that is where most of my experiences are....

Mexican--Los Molcajetes on the corner of Western Center and Beach street--in a shopping center with Albertsons.
Also, Los Posados on 35 between Western Center and Basswood is REALLY good.

Chinese--Honestly the best Chinese I have found is Taste of Asia on Basswood and Beach. They have a variety of Asian foods, and it is not a buffet--my family is not a big fan of buffets. The other one I have always liked is on the corner of Rufe Snow and Hightower, but I can't remember the name.

Pizza--Double Daves in Keller on 377 has really good pizza. I also like Papa John's really well. On 377 in the Albertson's shopping center is Papa Murphy's. I like their "specialty" pizzas, but not their more traditional pizzas. They make it when you order it, then you cook it at home.

Fried Chicken--have you heard of Babe's in Roanoke? It's worth the drive--all they serve is fried chicken and chicken fried steak--all family style. It is really good--and just a fun dining experience.

I haven't tried it, but have heard all GREAT things about the restaurant on Watauga Road that is in the gas station--I think it is called Chef Point. I have looked at the menu, but not convinced my husband to go there.

I can't make any recommendations on BBQ--just don't know enough....

That's all I can think of right now. These are all kid-friendly places. I can't wait to see other responses because I too like the smaller places better than chains. Hopefully I can find some new places as well.

Hi S. - We like a place called Moni's Italian Table. This is a clip from a newspaper:
Moni's Italian Table Bar & Grill, new in Saginaw, is the latest outpost for Moni Kaba's pizza-and-pasta specialties. The newest Moni's has a wine list, $5.95 lunches and $7.95 dinners. It's open daily, 11 a.m.-10 p.m., at 900 N. Blue Mound Road at Basswood Boulevard, north of Western Center Boulevard; call ###-###-####.
We live in the neighborhood and have been several times. Most of the time it is really good! Hope you enjoy it!
