Looking for Doula in Dallas, TX

I am now wishing i had found a midwife and/or birthing center but am so far into pregnancy that it is a little too late for that. So i am looking into a doula to attend my birth at our local hospital. Does anyone have experience with a doula, know a good one in dfw area, or have any other tips for a first timer that is trying to do this as naturally as possible?

What can I do next?

I took a birthing class at Baylor from a WONDERFUL doula. Her name is Melissa Espey-Mueller. I can't say enough good things about her. Her email is ____@____.com

Best of luck!

seems as though you have a ton of great recommendations so far.
have you checked out the motheringdotcommune.com birth and beyond forums for info about all things, well, birth & beyond?? the "finding your tribe" section is also great for finding local people and resources. politically the site can be a little off the grid, but it's a wealth of info i wish i had found before my first son was born!

Anna Marie Nelson--AWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME! www.professionaldoula.com
Couldn't have done my labor without her, and she is supportive (and honest) about whichever method brings your little one into the world! I hired her with less than two months left, and she stayed with me (and awake) for 21 hours straight and came to my home 3 days later for breastfeeding support (also couldn't have done that without her guidance). Good luck!

I used Anna Marie Nelson as my doula for my last child, which resulted in a quick, natural VBAC. Check out her website at www.professionaldoula.com. I would use her again for this baby (due in 2 months) if only I had the funds!

I would not have made it through my first delivery without my doula. My son was almost 42 hours of active labor (he got stuck) and an extremely unsupportive OB. My doula was there for me from the first signs of labor all the way through the end.

Don't shoot me, but it's been six years and I don't remember her name!

But I would highly recommend getting one.

Here's a website to help you locate one.

I have a now 2 year old daughter and I had a couple of really awesome midwives. They're based in Garland, and the name is Family Centered Maternity Care. You can check out their website at www.fcmcdallas.com.

There was a woman named Delilah who taught their childbirth classes, and she is also a doulah. Here is her information:

They teach childbirth classes at their birth center - the classes are focused on natural childbirth, and they welcome anyone, whether you are having your child through their birth center or going through a hospital. Check out their website - it's really great. There are quite a few doulahs listed on the resources page. God luck with everything!

I saw that someone already referred you to this web site but she could not remember her name. Linda Worzer was the doula/natural birth assistant we used. We did not use her as a doula but she tought our classes and she is my friends doula.

Check out birthcenter.net also. They are the Birth and Womens center down on Swiss Ave. I have seen them take women who are very late in their pregnancy without a problem. You have had prenatal care and I am sure it would not be a big deal. I delivered there and it was the best experience ever. Your midwife act as a doula and you also have doula/birth assistants there too. If it is something you really want you should at least check it out.

Good luck!!

Melissa Espey. ____@____.com has, I believe, 5 kids of her own and teaches all the pre-pregnancy classes at Baylor Dallas along with the Mom and Me class on Mondays. I met her through the Mom and Me class. She's awesome. She's extremely easy to talk to, funny, and very compassionate. Definitely suggest you at least contact her.
