My 6yr old has an issue going on with her bottom teeth that I'm not sure about. Her two front middle teeth are loose, but not coming out, because, the new teeth are coming in behind the old teeth, instead of under the old teeth. Does that make any sense? It looks terrible in her mouth right now!! She actually has a double row of teeth!! She has been a thumb sucker.........but she's all but done by now. Our dentist has always said for her to stop before her permanent teeth come in and she should be fine, but this makes me wonder...... Any experience with this, or expert advice would be appreciated:)
Thank you all for your advice and input. We weren't able to pull her teeth out ourselves, so my husband took Emma to the dentist today. They just used a little numbing gel on her gums, and popped them right out!! Sounds like she was very brave, and she even got a little treasure box to keep her teeth in:) I better go make sure the tooth fairy has some spare change for tonite;)..........Thanks again everyone!!

This is from a personal experience. When I was an adolecent I had a tooth that came in behind the baby tooth and the dentist had to pull it. He wasn't going to sedate me, but thanks to the dental assistant she thought I needed it. They just used gas to sedate me and flicked it out( dentist words not mine). Isn't it funny what you remember from being a kid.

I'm a dental assistant and we see this pretty frequently in my office, so don't fret. other than this being a little unattractive right now, it should'nt pose any real problems with her permenant teeth other than being unable to clean the fronts of them well. the ideal thing to do is take her to your dental office and have the teeth extracted if you're unble to remove them yourself. try wiggling the teeth both side to side and as much forward as you can.

I would definitely go see a dentist. There may be a possibility she just needs a little help getting those two teeth out to create more room for the new. If the new teeth are "interupted" by the old teeth then they will not come in looking nice b/c there's something in the way stopping them from coming in right in the first place. When I was real young, I had to have 10 baby teeth pulled for the purpose of allowing new teeth to come in. If you see a dentist, there may be a possibility they can pull those two for her. The thumb sucking still would concern me but I have heard that actually causes issues with the top row more than the bottom. My son did the same thing with his bottom teeth, they actually surfaced behind the baby teeth, but they pushed the bottom ones out and not up. I think that it is considered normal. My son took longer to loose those teeth than the top ones but they came out and the new ones took there place perfectly, which in turn started to push out the others on the bottom. If your dentist is not concerned than I wouldn't be too worried. My son just had a check up and has lost 5 teeth at 6years old and the dentist said they are all coming in beautifully. It always looks odd when they are loosing teeth! ;)
We JUST went through this with our 6 year old. :) His bottom teeth came in behind the baby teeth about a month or so ago. His bottem teeth were lose, but just not wanting to fall out and I was a little grossed out about trying to pull them out. He lost one of the two teeth about a week ago and lost the other one last night. So it may be soon that those lose ones will work free!!

I don't believe that it is anything for you to be overly concerned about. My son and daughter both had their teeth coming in from behind, and yes while it does look unappealing and doesn't seem normal, it's not unusual. My childrens orthodontist said that sometimes childrens teeth come in "faster" that the old teeth leaving and not uncommon, happens more often that people think. Maybe your child has a small mouth a jaw bone, like mine did, which was the cause of their teeth coming in double backed liked they did. I did take the time to have the smaller teeth removed and eventually my children both need braces, but today at the ages of 16 and 20 they both have very beautiful smiles. Both have small jaws and room inside for growth is limited, my son at 20 is looking to have his wisdom teeth removed due to no room. I would suggest taking your child to a dentist to have them checked for your own reassurance, but I'm sure you will find that there is nothing to worry about. Oh, and make sure that the dentist you choose does pediatric dental care, it makes a big difference for your children in the long run.
I can't say anything about your daughter for sure, but I'll tell you about my experience. My top teeth, the two beside the front two teeth, did the something similar. Instead of the permanents coming in behind, though, they came in in front of the primaries. I had to have my primary teeth pulled by a dentist. I also had to have braces partly because of that. I would make sure a dentist sees what has happened.

I actually had my two front lower teeth come in behind and at a 90 degree angle to my baby teeth as a child. My dentist eventually decided to pull the baby teeth to make room for the permanent teeth and we watched and waited to see if they would straighten out on their own.
Guess what - they did and I've never had braces and I have no teeth issues. I would recommend going to the dentist to see about pulling the front teeth and then just wait. It could turn out just fine!

My husband is a dentist and I asked him. He said to definitely take her into your dentist. With her baby teeth still there they are taking up the space for her permanents and untreated can cause the permants to come in crooked. If you or your daughter can wiggle the baby teeth and get them loose, great. But most likely the dentist will have to help. And yes most times the permanent teeth can then move forward into place on their own.

My daughter was and is the exactly the same way. She is a thumb-sucker and her bottom teeth came in the same way...my mom said she looked like a shark! Her baby teeth fell out and the permanent ones moved forward. Her dentist said this was fine, because her mouth is growing. Good luck.

Some children have really long roots on their teeth. I was one of them. My mom always had to have the dentist remove my baby teeth! My daughter did the same thing, two rows of teeth, so I took her to the dentist he pulled them out and all is well. I would ask the dentist about this and if you are not getting anywhere with the current dentist seek a new one, or a pediatric one! Good luck! My daughter is 6 too!
First discuss it with your family dentist...then get a second opinion. If the second opinion is different from the first then get a 3rd...two of the 3 opinions should be the same...they can't all be wrong, right? Then go with the dentist you think is best. I've never seen that happen before...they may decide to pull the baby teeth since the adult teeth are already there.
