hi, I am wondering if anyone has worked with, or knows of, Financial Freedom of America? I have a lot of credit card debt following my divorce and I am wondering if this is an option to get out of debt faster...anyone have any thoughts?

My BIL signed up with one of those company's and when he and my sister when to qualify for a house they found out it's basically like filing for bankruptcy...

I've been told it's better to try to negotiate with the credit card companies and have them lower your interest rates and get on a payment plan.

I'm a single Mom too, and trying to repair my credit as well. I wish you the best of luck!

Hi K.,
I haven't heard of Financial Freedom of America, but I wanted to share with you that my husband and I own our own business. We teach families how to make and save extra money, get out of debt, save for retirement, kid's education, etc. and our service is FREE of charge! We offer families a complimentary Financial Needs Analysis (FNA). Our FNA showed us how to eliminate 60K of debt in 20 months. Give me a call at ###-###-#### if you are serious about getting out of debt. We can set up an appointment to share more information with you. Or you can email me your phone number and my husband Derrick or I will contact you. Take care. L. Stroud

I would phone the credit card myself. You can negotigate the same deal as them, and not pay thier fee.

Sue had good advice. You can negotiate with the credit card companies directly. Look into Dave Ramsey's http://www.daveramsey.com/ website and check out his books from the library. He gives great advice. My SIL did it on her own and the CC companies took on average 40% of what was actually owed. It takes some thick skin, but you can do it. Good luck.

Hello K.,

It's always great to connect with another single mom. I have 4 daughters, including a set of twins, and I've been a single mom for almost 17 years.

Be very careful about enrolling in any kind of "get out of debt" program. You're much better off to work directly with your creditors. Everyone is aware of the economic downturn we're experiencing, so you will not be the first person your creditors have heard from! You may be surprised how willing they are to help.

I'm only cautioning you because I contacted a "get out of debt" agency about seven years ago and they eventually led me down the pathway to filing bankruptcy. I ended up losing my home. It was devasting.

Ask your creditors to lower your interest rate and design a payment plan that's workable.

Hope this helps,
~M.

My husband who is a bankruptcy attorney sue that those companies are glorified collection agencies. They try to collect as much as possible for the credit card companies. Hope this info helps.
