Looking for AP Pediatrician in the Pearland/Friendswood/Clear Lake/ Alvin Area

Hi, everyone. I am looking to replace our pediatrician with one who has more AP ideals (attachment parenting). I am not sure where to start! My 3 year old son does like his doctor, though my 1 year old daughter has made no attachment yet. I am also expecting a baby this winter.

Specifically, I am looking for a pediatrician who supports breastfeeding BEYOND the first 6 weeks (really, that supports extended breastfeeding) and doesn't try to push solids, who is supportive of research-based delaying of solids, and who doesn't want to prescribe antibiotics EVERY time the babies get the sniffles, KWIM? I just feel that our current pedi prescribes antibiotics way too often (my kids are hardly sick) and is not supportive of extended breastfeeding nor delaying solids. She was pushing starting cereal at 4 months, which I don't agree with at all. Niether does the American Academy of Pediatrics, but I know many pedis tend to suggest at 4 months.

Those are my main concerns, though a doctor who is supportive of co sleeping (done correctly) would be great too!

Thanks, mamas. I really don't even know where to begin!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

Thank you everyone, for your suggestions. My sister uses Dr. Decker, who is in the same practice with Dr. Gant and Dr. Gray (both of whom were suggested by y'all) and I was already considering him. One of my best friends uses Dr. Binder, so I was considering him, too! Hearing that others are suggesting these doctors makes me feel better. I think that I am going to schedule some interviews (and check my insurance, of course!!!). Thanks again for the suggestions. I am especially thankful for the details y'all provided (pros and cons). This really helped me when looking at who I want to interview.

I've used Dr. Binder for the past 2 years and my aunt has used him for 12 years. He is with UTMB in Friendswood right off of 528 and 518. His # is ###-###-####. He's never given a rx for antibiotics for my son. He's great with kids.

We use Dr. Monica Thint in Friendswood on FM 528. She is with Texas Children's Pediatrics. Cons: She did suggest solids at 4 months but she certainly doesn't push it. Pros: She is pro cosleeping, extended breastfeeding and will work with you on your vaccine choices. I don't know if you did this when you picked your first pediatrician, but you can go and interview pediatricians. You just sign up for a "new mommy" interview and you can ask all the questions that are important for your family.

We use Dr. Marrietta Cline in Dickinson. She is in the medical park off of 517, a couple of blocks from 45S (on the West side of the freeway). You turn between the church and Wendys; then it is the last building on the right. The medical park is behind Sussans Furniture Store on the freeway.

She is very laid back about YOUR choices on how you do things. She may give you her OPINION but if you have other ideas she is always open to them. She recently told me, with one of my foster babies not to worry about food for hin b/c he could survive quite well ob 18 oz of milk / formula a day. He had a strong gag reflex and just could not tolerate food at 5 mos. She also is a breastfeeding advocate. Hope that helps.

Dr. Erin Kennedy. She just moved on her own and is on CR89 just outside of Silverlake. She is also a internal medicine Dr. and is certified in both fields. She has been my doctor for over 10 years at least. The name of her company is THE MELINIUM (SPELLING?) GROUP

I have been very pleased with Dr. Jennifer Gray at Pearland Pediatrics. I moved here from out of state when my son was 2-1/2 and he took right to her. She's not for over medicating. You could view their website at www.pearlandpediatrics.com

You say that you make your own cleaning supplies???? How do you do that? I hate going to buy cleaning supplies no matter if they are good for the enviroment or not..I just plain hate shopping. Can you give me some ideas on how to make some of them so I dont have to go shopping?

Quillin is also pretty laid back about just about everything. I've used him for almost 5 years and he's great, only prescribed antibiotics X2 for moderate/severe ear infections other than that suggests otc or home remedies. Although not ness. pro-delayed immunizations he is supportive. Encouraged breastfeeding and praises (in my case) nursing at 10 months. He's right by C.L. hospital, very nice, great office staff, friendly and helpful. I even like his partner although she talks reallllllly fast.

Good luck!
