Looking for Any Good Father Books on Parenting or Transition into Fatherhood...

My husband got the book "Be Prepared: A Practical Handbook for New Dads" by Greenberg and Hayden as a gift. We both loved it! It was the only baby book I could get him to read (it's quite entertaining!). It has some really practical suggestions in there about what to do with your new baby and your wife who has become a new mother. I highly recommend it!

I don't know about books but my husband participated in Daddy bootcamp at our hospital and learned so much. They had new fathers bring their babies in and spend time with then soon-to-be dads. He got to change diapers, hold, feed, give bath, etc. They were allowed to ask any question they wanted and it went for 3 hr on 2 sat. It was great for him and he brought our daughter after she was born for other fathers.

There's one called "The Expectant Father" that's ok. I have to agree though... no matter what you look at - websites, books, etc. they seem to think that fathers are not going to be terribly involved. Most of them get about as far as "at this point your wife might really appreciate it if you offer her a massage", and that's about it. It's weird. The Brazelton "Touchpoints" books are very good parenting books, and are not geared towards one parent or the other. We also were given a subscription to Growing Child (www.growingchild.com) by my parents and that is another great *neutral* source of parenting information that we appreciate.

I bought my husband "The Expectant Father" by Armin A. Brott and Jennifer Ash. This is the first book in a series of three I believe. My husband loved this book and I enjoyed reading it too! Lots of great pointers for fathers-to-be for the impending arrival and how to "put cotton in your wife's shoes" too!!!:)

When we had our first I got my husband a book called "The Father's Almanac" that we thought was great. We buy it for all our Dad-to-be friends now.

My husband really liekd the book "The Man's Guide to Pregnancy, Fatherhood, and the first year of fatherhood"--it didn't have a lot of reference infomration it was more a humorous anecdote sort of thing, but very touching, itn eh end, and there was a lot to identify with emotionally and practically. Really nice and short book, and very funny.
