Hi S.,

Congrats!!!

Diamond Women's Center in Edina is great. My midwife was Debra Stealey, as for doctors there are many to choose from. Usually Deb will put you with a doctor that she feels you would work well with.

The number is ###-###-####.

I used the midwives at Fairview Riverside. It was the best experience of my life. Deb Kassaulke was great and so is the rest of the staff. I will definitely be going back for my next pregnancy. They were very supportive and the part that meant the most to me is that when it came to delivering I didn't wonder if my doctor was going to be there or not. You will always get one of the midwives that you have worked with throughout the pregnancy, no surprises!! And if there is need for medical intervention the OB/GYN is right there - no worries. They midwives there that have tons of experience. I definitely would recommend it!!!

I am also pregnant and go to Park Nicollet in St. Louis Park. My original dr and nurse practitioner have since retired, so I have gotten new ones. I have seen a few different drs and have not met one that I didn't like. They are all really great. Everyone at the ob/gyn clinic is very friendly including the receptionists.

Congratulations on a new baby. I have the best midwife. Her name is Katherine Simon, she is a certifed nurse midwife. she works at North Metro Midwives in Golden Valley. She works with North Memorial Medical Center. I was very happy with her bedside manner. I was able to deliver without pain medicine and she was very supportive of that and didn't rush the delivery. The office number is ###-###-####. J.

I loved my midwives at Health East, MacGroveland. They were awesome. You'll find that pretty much anywhere you go, you'll probably see one provider during your pregnancy but it's luck of the draw when it comes to the delivery. The doctors & Midwives usually work in groups and whoever is on-call when you go into labor will be the one there when you go in to the hospital. I was also able to deliver at St. Joseph's in St. Paul and do a water birth, which I know may sound a bit "granola" but it was absolutely the way to go-I didn't need to take any drugs, and my daughter was born totally alert as well as my recovery time afterward was really quick-I felt pretty much like my oldself after an hour or so (not the case with my first child-I had an epidural and labored for HOURS!!!! and felt like poo after and the baby wasn't very alert-it was a pretty bad experience).

goodluck with whatever you choose!

An excellent doula is an even better coach and partner than a midwife, and here's one of the best in our area:

I found her caring and warm, and she provided a better education about birth than I experienced with my first child.

Hi,

I went to the Diamond's Women Center in Edina right across the street from the Fairview Hospital. I see Dr. Daniel T. Chow (my sister referred him to me) and thought he was great. There is also a midwife that works at the center so you can see her if you choose. If you are more comfortable with a female doctor there are many to choose from and I've heard they are all great. Good luck with your pregnancy! How exciting!

Dr. Immerman at the Paul Larson Clinic in Edina is wonderful! He came very highly recommended to me from 3 sources. I went there for my entire pregnancy and delivered in October at Fairview Southdale (Immerman also delivered my daughter - which is somewhat unusual). He was very relaxed yet reassuring and took a moderate approach. He has been awarded One of the Best Doctor's in America for several years. My husband also really liked Dr. Immerman and felt included during the appointments.

I highly recommend going with a midwife. I believe midwifes are much more attentive to the needs of each individual pregnant women. I worked with the midwife team at Hennepin County Medical Center (HCMC) and had the most amazing experience. We delivered our first daughter in the birthing center there in a birthing tub. I have many friends who have also delivered there with great experiences. They have a very well respected reputation, you can check them out online and do a tour of the facilities. I also highly recommend having a doula as well. We used Sarah Longacre and she was so amazing. She greatly helped both my boyfriend and I during the whole process. I was only in labor for 7 hours and used no drugs. Research shows that births attended by doulas are shorter and women use less pain medication. Her website is sarahthedoula.com
My other greatest recommendation is reading Ina May's guide to childbirth. It was a godsend and helped me feel so much more comfortable with the laboring process.
Women I've talked to that use a OB tend to have more fear, more pain medication & longer labors. Plus most doc's won't let you eat or drink when you are in labor which is very necessary to give you the energy you need. Do your research and make yourself well informed as to all the options. OB's have their place and are great if you have a high risk pregnancy (only 10% of women.) Good luck-and enjoy every minute of it. You'll do great

Please think twice about seeing Debra Steley. I saw her a few weeks ago. She was emotional, judgemental, unprofessional and defensive. She didn't like my questions, because she didn't have enough medical knowledge to answer them, and could not give me a concrete answer to anything. After 10 minutes, she pretty much booted me out the door. I am pregnant with my first child, so I was really hoping for a sympathetic doctor who could sit down and talk with me. She just acted really busy, as if I was wasting her time and made me feel stupid for asking questions. The whole experience was just really unpleasant. It's hard to imagine how she has patients. I can only hope it was just a bad day. I will certainly not be going back again. The worst medical professional I have ever seen.
