Looking for an Inexpensive Vacation Spot

Hello All...I need some suggestions...my vacation starts July 11 - 20th and my grandson (5 years old) and I want to take a nice relaxing vacation. This will be my first vacation in 10 years. Nevertheless, my first thought was Myrtle Beach, but I'm not even sure where to go once I get there. I don't want to spend a whole bunch of money cause gas is taking most of that, but I do want to be able to relax and enjoy. Any suggestions will help!! May GOD bless you all!!

What can I do next?

We just got back from Chincoteague Island. Wonderful, non-crowded beach, nice little beach town and best of all it's expensive. I would definitely recommend it to families with little one. And it's only 3.5 hrs from the DC area.

Hi D.,
It depends on what you like to do. One relaxing place if you like camping/woods is Skyline Drive. They have cabins that you can rent or camp in a tent.

If you like the beach, there is a campground in Myrtle Beach down near Surfside Beach, (on the south side of Myrtle) that isn't too expensive. THere is also alot of condos that aren't too expensive.

If you want something closer to home, Williamsburg is quaint. Not too expensive, and if you wanted to you could go to the beach that's an hour away for the day.

Best of luck.

My family and I just took a quick weekend trip to VA Beach. It's nice that it isn't such a long drive as Myrtle Beach (esp. with a 5 year old in tow). And there are still plenty of things to do besides just going to the beach. They have a little roller coaster spot on the boardwalk that caters to younger children, etc. You can even find stuff on the web (just google search VA Beach) that you can do there, including tours such as dolphin watching/whale watching, etc. And we stayed in a beach front hotel, nothing fancy but it did have a separate bedroom from living room, was right on the beach (called Station One Hotel) for $169 per night. There are definitely cheaper hotels if you stay off the beach front, but we liked the option of just going right out to the beach.

Hope that helps and good luck with your vacation!

I just came back from several days in Virginia Beach that was nice and not too long a drive.

I will second Williamsburg. Again not a long drive. I found hotels down there to be affordable. Your grandson would probably like the water park and amusement park.
