Looking for an EXCELLENT Piano Teacher for YOUNG Children in Troy Area

When my mom asks what my son would like for christmas and birthday I am prepared to tell her PIANO LESSONS!
I would like to locate an experienced piano teacher who is very good at working with a 4 year old.
We live in the Troy/Birmingham area.

What can I do next?

I'm not in the Troy area, but I am a piano teacher. If you want him to learn using actual music, 4 years old might be a little young for him to start lessons. 5 is the earliest I have ever seen a child start, and that's because they had math and reading skills of a 7 year old. At a minimum, they need to be able to do basic addition and number recognition, so they can appropriately learn their first note values in 4/4 time.
If you want him to learn via the "number method", your 4 year old has to be able to recognize and associate with the numbers 1 - 12. The keys are assigned a number, and if it says 4, he plays the note associated with 4.
Also, he needs to be able to sit and pay attention for an entire half hour for the lesson, and then do it again every day to practice.
Good luck!

S., I'm in Rochester Hills/Troy area... 4 is very young to start piano lessons. Someone already suggested me and thanks!! : )

I am however starting a music/movement class with piano segments the first week of October on Wed. at 6:15pm-6:45pm. It's a group class with so far 3 other 4 year old boys and their parents. Should be a fun and energetic class!

Let me know if you'd like more info.

I have started 5 year olds recently in 15 minute lessons so that might be an option.

Piano requires much concentration and coordination and most 4 year olds are not able to do that. Most of the time it sets up the child and parent for a frustrating experience to start too early.

Hope you're well!! It's been a while since we met at Woodside!

I know a few piano teachers and they have rules about starting piano lessons. I asked about it because i want to start my daughter early with lessons too... but the child needs to be able to read, and do basic math, and have a good attention span which is usually by first grade or 6 years old.
So, if he is reading, or close to it, start working on math and counting. Listening to music and playing musical games at home is also another thing they recommend to get them ready.
