Looking for Affordable Organic Skin Car/hair Care/make-up

Well, I can tell you what I use but I do not want to hear if it is bad for my skin, LOL :) I love the products and I have never heard of anyone having issues with it. ARBONE! THey have it for babies, men, women, and older people. I can not say for sure if it is 100% organic but good luck finding that... I do know the bad ingredients that are not recommended for all types of skin is mineral oil no matter if it is organic or not. Don't get me wrong, I would love to go 100% organic so I am by no means knocking you down....it is just really hard to find. The make up I use is Bare Minerals (the real stuff) by Bare Essensials. If you have never tried it, go to an ULTA store and try it before you by. Wonderful stuff and good for your skin instead of the pore clogging stuff. I think this makeup is 100% organic but I am not sure..... Good luck I hope I helped somewhat. I have used arbone for 2 years and the make up for 3. My skin feels great and my daughter uses the arbone as well (for babies).

Hi, J.. I am so with you! A few months ago I started reading up on some of the chemicals in bath and body products and ended up throwing away everything in my bathroom! LOL A great resource is the Organic Consumer Association (www.organicconsumers.org/bodycare). I don't want to be a naysayer--I truly don't!--but watch out for some of the products others have mentioned. So that I don't offend anyone else, feel free to email me and we can talk more. I am definitely not selling anything or anything like that. I just don't want to offend anyone else by contradicting their recommendations with info I have found when looking into some products, especially independently sold product lines.

My extended family thinks I'm nuts because I've been on the same mission and have been feeling guilty about using certain common baby products for the first few years of my son's life. I did find one brand and I am in love with their products. The website is NaturesParadiseOrganics.com.
The ingredients on the back of the 2 in 1 foam coconut shampoo and body wash reads " Water, Organic Saponified Coconut Oil, Organic Coconut Extract". I really love the thick body cream in the same line and the shea diaper cream is great too. It makes the boys skin so soft in our harsh Idaho winters and they smell like pina coladas. P.S. If someone knows something I don't about this product, please share. I won't be offended. I just did research and was so satisfied with the data and the product. But I live in constant fear that I'm somehow negatively impacting their health.

I am surprised more people haven't said Arbonne! It is very affordable and they only use the purest ingredients. Their products contain less than 1% preservatives so they have a 2 year shelf life that is the FDA regulation. Most people sign up as a consultant and receive an additional 35% disc. For my baby, I buy California Baby products (you can find them at Whole Foods, Sunflower, and some Targets). They are a bit expensive but a little goes a long way. For myself (especially because I am still breastfeeding), I get shampoo, conditioner and lotion that are paraben-free and contain only natural fragrance (or none at all). No necessarily organic, but they don't have the harmful chemicals. At Whole Foods, they have a generic brand (365) that is super cheap for big bottles of all 3. For cosmetics, there is a brand called Physicians Formula that has a regular line of talc-free stuff and also an organic line. You can get it at Target. Also, Vitamin Cottage and Whole Foods have lots of cosmetics but they get pricer. Hope this helps.

I have to second Pam L's advice. Much of what is labeled as "all natural" or "organic" is not necessarily better for you. After all, belladonna is natural (its a plant), but it's also a poison (more often called deadly nightshade). What you want really is something safe, effective, and not overly expensive, something from a reliable company that has a good track record of looking out for their consumers and being environmentally responsible. I like the Yves Rocher products. They are 100% natural & botanical, and a lot of the perfumes they use, either as straight perfume or the smells in the body products are naturally based so most allergic people will NOT have reactions from them. I speak from experierence too, my hubby is Highly allergic to store bought perfumes, but not the ones I've gotten from Yves Rocher.
The products are a little pricey, but I have found with stuff like the makeup and the moisturizers a little goes a LOOONG way, so they actually last as long as or longer than a similar sized but cheaper store bought brand.
the other things I love about them is that everything smells sooo good, and that the products that I use actually help my skin.
Good luck in your search.....and unless cost is an issue, don't be afraid to buy something from a company to try...everyone has different skin and tolerances, so what works foe me may not work for you.

Check out the website www.cosmeticdatabase.com. They rate pretty much everything on a 1-10 scale going through all the ingredients. There are some costly products but I have also found some storebrands coming ahead of the more expensive ones. I currently use Burt's Bees ( Grapefruit) for shampoo and conditioner. Dove soap. For my kiddo, I use Dr Bronner's Soap. Check all of these. Be sure to check your ingredient label as I have found they sometimes change.

there's lots of good products out there - Jason's line is great - and you can find this stuff at Kingsoopers - so you don't have to go to someplace like Wholefoods, if you don't want to - though Wholefoods does have more options. As consumers we buy the bad stuff because it's cheaper - Just like we buy factory farmed meat because it's cheaper - event though it's really not good for us!

Hi, a friend of mine makes her own bar soaps with Young Living essential oils. She makes several body and shampoo bars but I have found that any of them are great to use on the hair. It also eliminates all of the plastic shampoo bottles . Hi J., I recently started using Physician's Formula makeup and I love it. It is 100% natural. The downside is that it is a little pricey but you can find it @ Walgreen's a lot on sale (I purchased @ 40% off). One more thing.... I have a dog that has a SUPER sensitive stomach and pretty much gets sick on everything she eats that is not her diet. SO! One day I put my new concealer (Physician's Formula) on the stairs to take up the next time I went upstairs... She ate just about 1/2 of it.. Cover and all. She didn't get sick once. I called the company and they said they get that call a lot but not once has an animal gotten sick from it. They like the smell as it's all natural and that's what their nature is.. I was stunned.. I know a lot of people have said this, but it is important to say again. You need to watch what companies say when it comes to Organic and "All Natural" companies can put organic on their bottles and only use a few organic ingredients. "All Natural" is misleading, things that are "All Natural" have a very short shelf life and a lot of time need to be refrigerated. I am not against any of these things, in fact I use natural (not to be confused with "all natural" skin care) as with natural cleaning products. All of which is very affordable, we live on a very fixed income and we can afford these products. I use Shaklee. This company has been around for 52 years and has the record to prove it. They use Organic when possible, other than that they are natural, meaning they use natural safe ingredients, no mineral oils or parabens. They are one of the only carbon neutral company in the world. I would be more than happy to get you some more information, just send me a message or you can go to my website at www.shaklee.net/touchofgreen and look at the Enfuselle Skin Care line and Minerals Color Line. It is a mineral based cosmetic line. I would be more than happy to even send you a presentation on the Enfuselle skin care and Minerals line. Also please do your reaserch, some of the companies that sent you info are not as "pure" as you want them to be. Please, do your research. Also, understand that with a lot of natural and organic products, you are going to be paying more money, but you are getting a better product.

I have had the best experience with Paula's Choice brand skin care products. Paula Begoun has done a lot of research about various make-ups and chemicals and what's really necessary and effective and what's just irritating, and finally she made her own line of products. They are not organic, but they are cruelty-free and of the highest quality. I lve them.
Even if her products were not your cup of tea, I suggest browsing her Web site since there is a lot of info and reviews there about various chemicals, and inexpensive and natural things to use, not solely a sales pitch for her products. It's www.paulaschoice.com.
Personally, I was rather disappointed in Arbonne products and prefer Paula's Choice for being cheaper and more effective. I noticed the active ingredient in one of my Arbonne cleansers is witch hazel. . . which is a lot simpler and less expensive than the bottle of Arbonne stuff I'd bought! I know other people rave about it, but it wasn't special to me, just $pecial, if you know what I mean. ;)

J.: I have been in the cosmetics industry for over a decade and have really done some research. I was a famous makeup artist in NYCfor TV and print and now sell a pareticular product line because I believe so wholeheartedly in it. When you say "All natural" or "organic" you need to be more specific, as there really isn't a guideline as to what that means. If you are saying you don't want any "chemicals" in products, that is going to have NO shelf life whatsoever, as there are no stabilizers in it and it will go rancid quickly, and will require that you store your product in the fridge. So in essence it will be like milk or butter and will get extremely expensive re-buying that weekly. Some ingredients in major cosmetic lines are there for specific reasons so that they are more stable and give a higher quality effect (ie: age-fighting, spf, locking in moisture, etc). If you are after something "more natural" then don't waste your money on the lines that claim this, it would be more worth your time and $ to just mash an avocado with honey and oats and apply it to your face...but you will not get the age-fighting benefits of products that have millions of dollars in Research and Development on them. I no sell the #1 brand of skincare and color cosmetics in the US for a reaso...I researched in depth. My brother is a pharmacist and I am a cancer survivor and take my health very seriously. J., way to go for going organic. I am a Mary Kay Beauty consultant. Our products are never animal tested, they also have natural ingredients. My daughter is vegan, and requested information about Mary Kay products and found them to be vegan also. The skin care helps all skin types. There is rarely an allergic reaction to the products. Even the lotions which say they are hydrated formulas, do not have anything in the to dry the skin, like alcohol. About 5 million dollars go for research every year to make sure we get poducts good for our skin. Most people know someone who sell Mary Kay, but if you don't and interested in trying it let me know.

Pretty much all of the health food supermarkets (Whole Foods, Sunflower, Wild Oats, etc.) have a cosmetics, skin/hair care section. Lots of good, affordable options. I'm also personally a fan of Burt's Bees which is now also available in the regular supermarket. Good luck!

I am one of those health-crazed ladies! lol
I am fanatical about what I allow on my skin and on my children's skin because it does get absorbed directly. My philosophy is that I won't (if at all possible) put anything on my skin that I wouldn't eat--it all ends up in my body after all. Personally, I ALWAYS read ingredient lists because labels can be very misleading. I do not recommend most of the "natural" products at the healthfood stores--they still contain junk. I use lotions, etc. from Tropical Traditions online (tropicaltraditions.com). They are reasonably priced, safe enough to eat, and excellent quality. My SIL who used to be a cosmetics consultant for Nordstroms and an Arbonne distributor LOVES the Tropical Traditions products. And, their products do NOT go rancid quickly because they are made in a base of virgin coconut oil that is extremely shelf stable. (Properly produced coconut oil can be kept at room temp for at least 7 years without going rancid. Lower quality oils--most vegetable oils--will go rancid very quickly.)

as for hair products try somethng called Aura. they are found in Sally Beauty supply. cosemtics are a little different. not sure on that one. I use dermablend for my lupus may be too much for most. get online and look around they will be a bit pricey. But I use the Aura conditioners and just love them

Hi J.. Like you I started looking for a better option 2 years ago. I have the same issue with the "natural" products. I found a product line called Miessence and I have been using it ever since. My son, husband & myself use it so I started selling it. All of my friends who have tried it love it as well. I think it is Natures Care I just started using from the Sunflower market - smells great & feels good on my hair. I am actually a hairstylist, but don't always like the professional products due to the limited number of natural products used. A great professional product that prides themselves on natural ingredients is AVEDA!! That's my first and top choice.

I know exactly what you mean. I love Dr. Bronner's soap. It has nothing bad in it and it is completely biodegradable. There a lot of different kinds. I love the peppermint and Lavender. It's the soap we take into the mountains with us to wash everything. You should be able to find it at any health food store. As far as hair care, there is Jason products, and a slew of others that I can't remember the name of, at any health food store. And skin care, I love Burt's bees. They are the best. Good luck.

I love the Lush line of cosmetics. The only store I know of in Colorado is in Boulder, and that may not be too close to you, but they do have a website. http://www.lushusa.com/shop I will warn you that the prices aren't cheap, but the products are so high-quality that you only need a small amount. For example, a bottle of shampoo is around $27, but I've been able to make that last six months washing my hair every other day--and I have long hair. They do not carry makeup, just body care products. Everything smalls wonderful and they are truly commited to the use of natural ingerdients.

I use Everyday Mineral make up.
( www.everydayminerals.com) They only have like 3-4 ingredients in the different formulas and my skin looks great...my husband can actually tell the difference. YOu can get a "sample pack" that only costs shipping $3 and you can see which foundation colors match your skin the best as well as trying out blush and concealer. They are not certified organic but the website shows you the ingredients and they all come from the earth...not man-made. Beacuse of this, if for some reason you fall asleep without washing your face, it is not a big deal...no nasty stuff to clog pores. Well now that I've given you an "infomertial" I will let you check out the website. Good luck. As far as other products, just check out your local heath food store and there should be a good deal of options.

I would suggest the cosmetics database that others have suggested. I love that I can look any product up and see what chemicals are in them. California Baby is one of the safest products on there- they have a website and I have found them at Target. Good luck! I am looking for the same things as you.

I use Arbonne products, if you look online you can find a distributor near you, they use plant products, all natural and for the first time, I didn't react to their products. And for an organic product the prices were very reasonable.

Gosh, you're probably overwhelmed with all the information you've gotten, so I hate to add to it... but here I go. My advice to you is to keep in mind that everyone's definition of natural and chemical free vary. Everyone has different levels of expectation. I tend to be a bit over the top anal about it -- I don't make my own cosmetics or anything, but I am much more aware of ingredient lists than most people. The Skin Deep skincare online database a few people mentioned is great, but be careful interpreting the information. Sometimes a product with get a seemingly negative report has that higher number only because some of the product's natural ingredients may not have undergone formal testing for cosmetic use. I don't remember specifics but it would be things like chamomile or something benign like that.

To keep it really simple and inexpensive: Dr. Bronner's castille soaps are great. And something you might consider for skin conditioning is using a base like jojoba oil (very close to human skin ph level), shea butter or cocoa butter mixed with a drop of essential oil such as lavendar or tea tree.

Also, I wasn't impressed with Arbonne but check it out for yourself. In the catalog my friend showed me, the complete ingredient lists weren't even printed for me to read. If a company really prides itself on all the natural ingredients, I don't know why they wouldn't include the complete list in its catalog. Plus, I figure if I can't pronounce the ingredients or if the list is more than a few lines long, it's probably too complicated for my skin. Just my two cents.

Check out Lily Organics for skincare. I actually met Lily at Whole Foods one day -- amazing lady. She lives right here in Colorado and they grow and produce everything here in the state, too. You're looking at $20 or so for a bottle of skin conditioning oil, but it lasts for months. Plus, you can feel so good about the almost nonexistant carbon footprint of her products.

I also like most Burt's Bees products. And check out Aubrey Organics; I've never used their products but intend to check it out.

I for one agree with you 100%. It's crazy the amount of chemicals that are in the items we use to clean, moisturize and make ourselves look pretty. Best place to look for organic items would be whole foods or vitamin cottage. Unfortunately you almost always pay more but both stores have brands that are organic and reasonably priced. Whole Foods has a 'store brand' 365 not all of it is 100% organic but it doesn't have all the chemicals. Tom's and Jasons are also good brands at a lower price. Burt's Bees is also a good one and can be found at Walmart and Target. Don't forget to 'clean up' your household cleaning products. I use baking soda, vinegar, hydrogen peroxide, alcohol and olive oil w/ fresh lemon juice for almost all of my cleaning. You can find 'recipes' online for almost any task. Go ahead and get on your soap box and stand up for your health and the health of those you love and care about because these big companies producing cancer causing products (among other diseases) won't.

I just read your post and all of the responses you received. There have been some great responses. I do research on this topic for a living. It’s hard to eliminate toxins and chemicals from your house, yourself and your family.

Personally I feel your best bet is to stay away from companies like Shaklee and Melaleuca. They say they are non-toxic, but are far from it. Companies like that do not list 100% of the ingredients on the bottle. If they say they are safer, then where is the proof they should state all of their ingredients.

As for the organic industry, you can't trust all of the labels unless you understand what you are reading. Aubrey Organics for example uses Sodium Lauryl Sulfate and Dioxin. Unfortunately, you almost need a chemistry degree to decipher the labels on the bottles. Arbonne uses synthetics and other chemicals that are absorbed into the skin.

As for the other lines, look for a key word "perfume or fragrance". All fragrances are toxic unless they are pure essential oils. (even those aren't created the same).

The reason I bring up other companies is because you asked ” I am wondering if anyone has any recommendations for products or a product line that truly is organic?”

Personally, I make my own lotion from organic shea butter and organic coconut oil. It is affordable and easily assessable. As for cosmetics, read the labels. Not all mineral makeups are created the same.
I personally use a line called Miessence. It’s from Australia, it’s 100% organic, but it’s not the least expensive option. For cleaning supplies, save some money and make them yourself. Basic vinegar, lemon juice, baking soda, and hydrogen peroxide will do wonders for your house. Best of all it less toxins to absorb and breath in.

There is another company called http://www.terressentials.com/. You might want to look at the site. They have 100% true organic products. They have an interesting article on their site “what does organic really mean?”

The best thing you can do is research. Learn about the ingredients and make an educated decision for yourself and your family. Also, anything you put on your skin absorbs 10 times the amount it would be if you ingested it.

It is priced just a cheap as walmart and it ships to your door. We have seen so many health benefits within our family.
