Looking for Advice on Not Vaccinating and Doctors They Use

I am looking for advice from moms who have decided to either stop vaccinating their young children or who have not vaccinated at all. I have a 6 yr-old who has always been vaccinated, a 4 yr old whose 4 yr vaccines I just opted out of, and a baby due in February whom I don't want to vaccinate at all. We have breastfed both children, started using natural/organic foods, etc...starting with the birth of our 6 yr old...not to say McDonalds isn't a child favorite in this house. We started using all natural/non-caustic cleaners, etc...when my 4 yr old was an infant and we found he was allergic to cleaners, and now we're seeing a chiropractor regularly. Our next question is on the vaccines. Our current pediatrician can't accept the fact that we don't do flu shots...let alone anything else. As of January he won't be on our new insurance anyway. So, we're looking for suggestions on pediatricians who support a more natural whole health approach in the St. Charles County area not further west than Lake St. Louis.

What can I do next?

I'm kind of in the same boat as you. Our 5 yr. old had "most" vaccinations...but I did opt out of a few. Our 2 yr. old has only had a few and didn't get any at his 1 yr. checkup. We do a lot of organic foods and supplements and use all non-toxic household and laundry cleaners. Our pediatrition is wonderful with vaccines! When we took our 2yr old (when he was a newborn) for his first round of shots, we discussed all of them. He gives all the pros and cons but lets the parent's make the decision. He told me his top 3 out of the 6 newborn shots...and then told me I could do my own schedule...1 at a time...skip some, wait until he's older...etc. So, my youngest has only had the HIB, and 2others. He's not had the MMR or any other shots. He's very healthy. Check out Dr. Randy Agolia in the St. John's Mercy Building on HWY K.

I will say I had never been denied my right to not vacinate, except when I moved back to the St Louis area ,and decided since we moved to St Charles not back to St Louis county
we would try to go to a pediatrican on this side of the
river. I took my child to a pediatrican group here and
was told since I made a choice not to fully inoculate,
he had a choice and would not be able to see our children
there again. Never asked me why , just was told not to
come back , and the office followed up with a letter by
the Dr. So I went back to our Old pediatrican (which in hind sight I should have done to begin with) Esse pediatrics
on Studt off of Ballas, this is where we went back to. They let you decide, but will also give their reasons why they think you should.

I applaud your decision. I found myself on the same end of the conversation with our pediatrician, I finally just stopped going there. We found that it is not easy to get through life without the shots, they are "required" in so many things that you would not think. After our son had a severe reaction to the shots when he was a baby, our doctor told us he would not continue the vaccines on him until he was 2 years old. It was always a touchy subject with family, schools and jobs. We did allow our kids to have the shots as they entered the preteen and teen years. That allowed them to participate in activities they were interested in, and their bodies were mature enough to throw it off easier.

If I were you I would begin a search for a holistic MD. There are a few in this area. They have all of the training that regular MD has, and they are also trained in the use of herbs and supplements in their treatments. I wish you the very best. I hope you are taken to task too much on this forum.

I don't have kids yet, but I do have an 11 year old little brother who has been seeing Dr.Agolia since he was really young and my parents both love him. My mom isn't really in the anti-vax camp (though I am) so I can't speak for him as far as natural/holistic philosophy, but I do know that my family rates him very highly and I'm happy to hear that he's accepting of other choices. I know he's located right off of K near Mexico Road, right next to Pizza Street and Ihop.

I too am not vaccinating my child. He did receive one DTAP shot and then I decided I did not want to vaccinate any longer. He is now 12 months and completely healthy and still nurses 4x day. If your child is breastfeeding and not in a daycare setting I don't see any reason they need to be vaccinated. We go to Suburban Pediatrics. It is located off New Ballas. Our pediatrician is Dr. Ayers. She is completely neutral on the subject. She just asks if we would like to get any shots that visit, and if I say no she says ok. I know that is a little far for you, but it is so hard to find a doc that doesn't look down on you for not vaccinating. Good luck to you.

Hi S.,

I also go to the Wellness Connection for care. I also have decided for many reasons not to vaccinate any more ( Or go to my own schedule). My daughters go to Dr. Nisar. She has come to understand our choices. She always says to me that she has to offer the vaccines but it is our choice. She also has explained why she beleives what she beleives. I understand her point of view b/c she does see a lot more than I would ever see of unhealthy kids. She is located right accross the street from the Wellness Connection. In the same area of Walgreens. You might want to ask Dr. Whitney or Olivia, they know a lot of doctors. But interview them...that is what I did. Good luck!
