Looking for Advice on Cloth Diapering

I simply get 5 dozen of the infant -
5 dozen of the next size if thats where you are (I use brown edged chinese prefold) its imporant to get good diapers not thin or cheap diapers - they will run about 23-28 dozen I believe and look for 4 x 8 x 4
I use inexpensive dappi covers from ebay (for now) older I will probably need a few others...

I wash them myself - no rinsing no water pail
they make liners as well that are flushable :)

I concur on the Loving Mamma Diapers in troy. I have been working with Brandy on getting my son transitioned over to cloth and she has been very helpful.

All in Ones (AIO) can take longer to dry since they are well all in one. BumGenius seems to be the favorite of many moms.

Pocket: my cousin chose these because they dry quicker.

Prefold: is what I am going with for economical reasons and well frankly they dry faster. I have some AIO's and other cloths that take 2 cycles to dry! Prefolds dry in no time.

Check on Craig's list for gently used covers - I just picked up a bunch for $4 each; a fraction of the price.

I am by no means an expert but I have been researching for months.

You have to ask yourself how often you want to wash, how long you want them to take to dry and how much can you spend.

Brandy's site is full of info and she replies to email's rather quikcly. She holds cloth diapering classes; I recommend taking it.

We have used prefolds and covers since our son was born, it's relatively easy and cheap. We just wash them ourselves, it's easy and no big deal really.

I know several moms who use all in one or pocket diapers and they love them.

I'd call Brandy and get all your questions answered though!

Hi D., We just did the 21 day trial program from www.jilliandrawers.com. You get a few different kinds to see what works best. If you keep everything you get a $10 credit, if not then you get refunded. The website also has a good tutorial that is easy to understand. My SIL uses Bum Genius for her 10 month old daughter and loves them.

We cloth diaper our daughter, but I only use prefolds and wool covers. They were more budget friendly. We do not use a diaper service (although with some of those very "full" diapers, we've considered it!) Honestly, it isn't that bad to clean. We have two pails. One for just wets and one for poops. We wash every 2-3 days. We have 24 prefolds and 5 covers. I only wash the covers every few weeks since they are wool. They work so well though! I tried bummis whisper wraps early on, but they left red marks and leaked occasionally. I'm very happy with what we use now. There is a nice cloth store in Ann Arbor called Tree City Diaper-it's worth checking out. We bought my beloved BabyHawk carrier there, too. If I can share anymore, please let me know :o) Sara

I had no choice but to read about all the diapers, however my girlfriends who've also switched to cloth said it was extremely helpful to see them in person and talk to someone at the store. Look at my other postings...
