Looking for Advice on Area Hospitals

Hi Mommas!!

I am pregnant with our "surprise" number 3. I am looking for some opinions on area hospitals as far as Labor and delivery. Good experiences and bad. I went to St. Joseph Mercy for my previous 2. I loved it there EXCEPT they will not tie your tubes. We are for sure on wanting this procedure done, so they are out. We've heard great things about Huron Valley and Beaumont, so we are considering them as well. I do not have an OB yet so I need to make up my mind FAST!

What can I do next?

B.,

Congratulations! I highly recommend Royal Oak Beaumont...had both my girls there in the past four years - it's like being at the Ritz Carlton or something. They took such good care of me and my girls!
I also go to Somerset OB/GYN in Troy http://www.somersetgynob.com/

A friend of mine just delivered at the new West Bloomfield Hospital Henry Ford. She is having her tubes tied today before leaving the hospital. Loved her delivery and stay. Her ob and mine is a Dr. Sylvia Simon. She is willing to take the time to talk to you and is very easy to talk to.

I loved Crittenton in Rochester. I go to Contempory OB/GYN in Rochester Hills at Walton and Livernois. I don't know if they will tie your tubes, but I have had only good experiences there.

Best of luck.

I had my 3rd child last November and have had all 3 at Beaumont in Royal Oak and could not be happier! My two older children have also been there multiple times in pediatrics and I had great experiences with the hospital and staff there at those times as well. The rooms in the mother baby care unit are all private. The staff are very friendly and accomodating. I don't know about tying tubes as I've never asked but I don't see why they wouldn't.

I also go to Somerset Gynocology and Obstetrics in Troy off Big Beaver and love it as well. The doctors are great and take the time to listen to you when you have questions and/or concerns.

congratulations on your newest addition! Three children are a blessing. :)

I had both at Huron Valley and loved the experience. The nurses are very attentive and everyone makes sure you understand everything. I also second the team of docs at 15/Farmington. My doc is Dr. Markowitz - informative and couldn't be any nicer. Dr. Mary Cornelius performed my c-section because Dr. Markowitz was out of town. I think she is wonderful as well.

I had one baby at Beaumont Royal Oak and one at Huron Valley. Both were positive experiences. If I had to choose a hospital to give birth at again, I would pick Huron Valley by a landslide. HV was much more personalized experience. They seemed more attentive and I had a c-section. Having my surgery down the hall from my room, as opposed to at Beaumont, where the operating room is on another floor, afforded me the ability to prep and recover in my room and bond with my baby. At Beaumont, I was prepped and recovered in a triage area, and they took my baby and put him in the nursery. I didn't get to hold him for four hours, until I was setteled in my room.

Also, if you decide you want to stay at St. Joe's, you could have the Essure proceedure for permanent birth control, which is done in the doctors office. It is a non-surgical, minimally invasive approach that has a much shorter recovery time than tubal ligation.

I LOVE my group of doctors and so do all my friends. It seems whenever I meet someone new, they also go to this OB group. The group is Women's Health Center in West Bloomfield (15 Mile and Orchard Lake). They used to deliver at Huron Valley but are now at the new Henry Ford. There are about 5 docs that deliever, all great. I tend to see Dr. Markowitz most often. Their number is ###-###-####. Their website is: http://www.whmcenter.com/cms/

Good luck!
