Hi - I have 15-month-old boy/girl twins and I am looking for a variety of indoor activities to do with them (outside of my house.) Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. The kids need to get out of the house and the weather is too rainy for anything outdoors.

So What Happened?

Thanks to everyone for the fabulous ideas. With your suggestions I have done a ton of research and found MANY great indoor places to take the twins. I appreciate your help and it looks like we will have a full calendar of trips this winter. Thanks again.

My kids enjoy the Pacific Science Center, the 3rd floor play area at Bellevue Square, and there is a great kid's museum at Factoria Mall.

A lot of rec centers have indoor play gymes, I had to run one when I worked there. I would check it out, they are fun and it lets you have a safe place to play with them or let them play.

Well.... I guess it depends on where you live. Where we are there are a number of great indoor places to take your kids. We have many hands on childrens museums, like Great Explorations and The Museum of Science and Industry- Kids Zone, which is great for kids of ALL ages including us grown-up ones :-) Try doing some research in your area and see whats out there. Sometimes even the malls have indoor play grounds- and thats free :-)

In Bellevue there is the Kidsquest Science Museum for kids of all ages. My 18 month old loves it. The yearly membership is $80 they are open Tues thru Sun and with the membership you can go as often as you want. Great place to go on rainy days.

You can take them to a pet store, toy store, the playground at the mall, to the grocery store to get ingredients to make something together when you get home. When I was a nanny and it was raining and I was running out of ideas I would always take the kids to the pet store. They would have fun in there for hours looking at the fish and the hamsters etc. We would go around and spend a few minutes in each section. Then I would have them pick out a small toy/treat for their pet or mine. They were always very engaged and had a great time! These are ideas aside from the ones that cost like going to the museum, indoor playplaces, etc. Hope this helps!

First try the local park district. They usually have plenty for kids that age, and it's affordable. You could also (if you want to pay more money) join toddler classes like Gymboree. The good thing is this comes with open play so you can go usually most days of the week. It is a lifesaver in winter. There is always the library, though at 15 months with two of them, I bet it's hard to go nearly anywhere! Your best bet would be to join a mommy group that hosts play dates in their homes. Usually the moms rotate. This is free, the kids LOVE it (plus the toys are all there, all new to the kids), mommies can to chat with other moms, and it's very easy to keep track of two toddlers in a home, as opposed to a public place. We have trouble with the public places b/c ours are 3, 2 and newborn. It' s getting easier, but nothing beats another person's house.

If you're not a part of any mom groups, I really recommend joining one or two! That will give you lots of things to do and places to go with your twins! You can find groups on meetup.com or through some of the local parenting magazines.

I highly recommend indoor park/baby gym at your nearest community center. They range from $0.50-$1.00. I love the baby gym at the Montavilla Community Center; the room is the perfect size for them all to play, but it still feels intimate and the parents are really nice. There is a ton of stuff for them to climb up (big, squishy, gymnastics-type things) and balls for them to play with etc. :)

check out an indoor playpark. there are two that i know of. in downtown vancouver, there is noah's arc at the first presbyterian church. on the east side, there is the camas washougal indoor playpark at the harvest community church (www.meetup.com/cwindoorplaypark). it's a great place for you and your kids to socialize and keep you from getting the winter crazies!

oh i see you are in kent. there is a little gym in renton but didn't see much else. i would try at your local community centers. or check at the hospital, sometimes they have places to refer you to or even playgroups.

I know what you mean... with summer weather lasting into the fall, it has been so easy to find a variety of outdoor activities. But inevitably the rain catches up with us. My toddler and I enjoy story time at the library. If you have a little extra money, gymnastics has been a saving grace for our family. I would highly recommend it! Also, if you need some time for yourself as well as some fun for the twins, join a gym with a daycare. My husband and I recently did it, and it has been great for the whole family. The kids enjoy interacting with their peers and we get some time for self improvement. I wish you luck!

I am a huge fan of the Play & Learn groups. Don't know where you live, but there are three in my area and they're free! It's a great chance for socializing with other mom's in your area and fun for the kiddos too! I took my four year old & 7 month old today and they both had a blast! Our's is run by an elementary school teacher and includes art projects for the bigger kid's(2-5), music oriented circle time and plenty of opportunities for exploration. Good Luck!

P.S. If you live in Shoreline or close to it, I can recommend two great groups!

If you check out the malls, most have indoor play areas with the squishy floors to cusjion falls. I know there is one at the SuperMall in Auburn, and Southcenter Mall has one too! Check out the YMCA and enroll them in a toddler gymnastics. Mostly just free play!
