Looking for a Stroller for a Toddler...

Hi Moms!

My kid is 2 and 33 lbs, 34 inches tall. Recently I went to NYC with him to see the sites. I brought my stroller (Citi Mini) but found it a little heavy after a while, especially when carrying it up and down subway stairs. I would like to purchase something smaller, but still good quality.

Many of the umbrella strollers have a 35 lb weight limit, and I want room to grow.

Any recommendations?

I agree with all the Maclaren recommendations. The Volo is their lightest model and like their other strollers, it can accommodate a child up to 55 lbs. which is impressive given how light it is. The Citi Mini is already pretty light vs. comparable strollers: other Baby Jogger, BOB, Valco, Bumbleride, etc. so Maclaren Volo is the way to go. You could always read the reviews on Amazon. That's what I do now before I buy anything--their reviews are great and some are very detailed.

I love(d) my chicco stroller. It folds up well and has a carry strap and the wheels are large enough to go up stairs (seriously it sort of climbs them). I took it everywhere even on walks on uneven trails. I highly recommend it. I see it on line for $65 but I bought mine in store at Baby's R Us for $40. It says up to 37lbs and honestly my son has been just around 30lbs forever (since around 2 now he's 3)

I love my Maclaren unbrella stroller. I have a 4.5 year old who uses it. It goes to 55lbs (he is only 40lbs). The cushion handles make it easier to use and it has a carry strap as well so when i go down the subway stairs i just fold it and throw it over my shoulder. There was a recall recently on some Maclaren's so read that first. They have a replacement part if you buy an older one and there are Maclaren reps in the city right now going around putting them on for you (that's how i got mine fixed). they are expensive for umbrella strollers ($100) but i've had it almost 5 years and use it in the NYC all the time and it's in great shape - just get a dark color :-)

I had a volo and loved it. it was great for travel. Sadly the volo was recently recalled and had cut off 12 little fingers but i think the company put out a repair kit for it.

I have a combi flare. Very lighweight, good for travelling (we've taken it on trips overseas many times.) Not sure what the weight limit is, though my son is touch 30-31 pounds.

We have a Maclaren Volo. It's ridiculously light, folds up in a flash and has a strap so you can sling it over your shoulder when you're on the bus or subway. To me it's the perfect city stroller.

We have the Quinny Zapp, which is large enough for a toddler and really lightweight. We took it on a vacation and stowed in in the overhead in the carry on bag. The only problem with it is that it doesn't really have anywhere that you can "carry" it from - there's no handle. I think it's meant more for storing in the back of a vehicle, but it's an awesome umbrella stroller!!! I believe it is about 10 lbs., but I don't travel with it by hand.

Maclaren Quest or Volo... It's what all us city mamas use. weighs like 9 to 11 pounds and they last forever...

Yeah, there was a recall of Maclaren because of the metal hinges, but who lets their kid open and close the stroller? They aren't that easy for a kid to manipulate, so to me it was kind of like recallng a car door. You can cut your fingertips off in that if you close your hand in it, too. Let's recall car doors. Doh...

im a grandma and i can't help you with stroller information but, i am concerned about your childs weight. i have a son who was born underweight some 30 years ago. i am a teacher of children with a sad time im not by no means at all about your 3 year old. what im trying to say is this my son was skinny then all of a sudden he started to gain weight around 8 years old
now he is 30 yrs old obese through his teens and adult life. im beside myself im worried to death. at the age he started we thought it would out grow it oh but did he outgrow it no he did not. what im trying to say is this just keep your eye on your darling baby and be sure his weight is good i did not. not from neglect but the pediatrician at that time said he would out grow it another mistake so now i have a son who is very successful makes a 6 figure salary and has a girl and to me is getting worst does not seem to care either. and the all time sadness he is in perfect health according to his doctor and im surprised i sorry for going on all im saying time flys you son is a bit chubby be careful please im trying to get my son to go on a diet get the lap thing but to no avail. im so sorry but please watch that bundle of love and don't be in my sons shoes it's very scarey buy a heavy dutie stroller one you know will help you feel he is comfortable and you can push it easier because its bigger and stronger
thank you and GOD BLESS
