Looking for a Safe Natural Remedy

I'm looking for a safe natural remedy to get rid of herpes. When ever I get a really bad cold I always end up getting herpes in and around my nose. I think it must be from blowing my nose so much which cause my skin to become extremely agitated. My OB/GYN doesn't want me to use the Rx I have since I'm 14 weeks pregnant. I always feel extremely ugly when I get one and don't like to go out in public. With out meds I'm afarid it will take forever to clear up, since I still have my cold. So any help out there to help me clear up my nose faster would be greatly appreciated.

What can I do next?

My MIL always uses Acidopholous ( I think that's how its spelled) It is supposed to help when you have the runs..but for whatever reason gets rid of her herpes and coldsores. I think it's fine to take pregnant...you can just buy it at any drugstore.

Load up on Lysine. You should take it 3 times a day when you feel the cold sore coming on. But, please ask your doctor first to make sure it's safe for you. Also, stay away from raisins and chocolate as they suppress the Lysine. There's also a lip balm that works pretty well called Herpecin-L. Good luck!

I know all too well what you go through! The thing I find to dry them out quicker is to use a q-tip and dip it in rubbing alcohol, I swab it all day. They do dry up quicker from it! You might be like me and get those because of too much acid in your system. When I was pregnant my doc told me to use maalox for my heartburn and it also helped me not get the cold sores. Hope this is of help to you! Good luck!

Reduce sugar consumption as it impairs immune function by interfering with white blood cell production and depletes the body of important B vitamins. Instead, snack on whole foods such as hardboiled eggs, rice crackers, soft cheeses, fruits, and vegetables. You may want to even ask your OB if you are able to take extra vitamin B-12 or B-6 as they prevent herpes anywhere in your body. To other minerals are selenium and zinc. I do know that they sell these in Health Food Stores. But PLEASE make sure it is OKAY with your doctor first before trying anything new that could harm you or the baby. These are things that I do when I have a cold sore on my face anywhere. Hope this helps! Good Luck

There is an hebal supplement call "L-Lysine" and basically it boost your amino acid. I called my friend to clarify before sending this and this is what she said....
When you first start out you should take it once a day for at least 2-3 weeks then you can stop taking it until you actually have a situation come up that you think you might need it. So in this case if you feel a cold coming on start taking it right away even before you actually break out.

For the person who recomended acidophilus, it is the naturally existing bacteria in yogurt so that's definitely good for you even if you're pregnant and maybe especially if you're pregnant because it helps combat uti's. Maybe also coldsores I've never tried it for that. I have tried burt's bees resq ointment for cold sores. It's great and all natural.

i just googled cold sore remedies for you and one interesting thing i read was to apply toothpaste to it and go to bed like that then wipe away in morning. i dont know how true that is but it is definitely something you could try tonight. everyone has toothpaste.

I have heard that Tea Tree Oil is an excellent remedy for cold sores- it also has a menthol smell that would probably help your stuffy nose too. If you do a search for it online you can find instructions for use and order it. Alot of health food stores and sometimes even Walmart carry it. Good luck

I don't know how bad yours get, but I get cold sores at least 1-2 times a year. Fortunately, they have gotten better with age, but they are still pretty ugly. I don't use anything but lip balm (usually carmex), especially after the blister dries. Keeping the healing scab moist helps mine to heal better. They are gone with a week.
