Looking for a Place to Spend Christmas in the Snow

Hi ladies, my husband and I would like to spend this Christmas in a town with snow. Being from tropical land this is a new concept for us. We do not want a skiing resort but more of a place where we can go tubing, play outdoors with the kids (8 and 2)ice skating, maybe skiing one day and have the whole "Christmas Town" experience. The Grandmas are coming also. We were thinking in Colorado. Does any of you know of a place where we can rent a cabin maybe or a laid back resort in a charming town?
Thanks for all your suggestions!

We moved here from Heber City, UT and it's a great place with awesome snow! It is 45 min. west of Salt Lake. Park City is 20 min away, that's where the Olympics were, but Soldier Hollow is in Midway, about 5 min from Heber. Soldier Hollow is where the cross country skiing was, but they have a great tubing park. People come all the way from Salt Lake to tube there. There are several hotels in and around Heber and Midway and also some in Park City, which is a quaint (but pricey) ski town that's also fun to see. I was never on skis before we lived there, so I don't know what snow is like elsewhere, but we always heard that Utah snow was the best!

One of the most beautiful places is WinterPark / SolVista Colorado. WinterPark is sure to provide you with everything you need. It truly has a "Christmas" town feel to it. We've skied at SolVista for several years and we book our homes through a website (http://www.vrbo.com/) for a very reasonable price. This allows us to be outside of town - but still close enough that we can go in for groceries, shopping, tubing, and skiing. Good luck!

I grew up in Glenwood Springs, CO there are several small towns around Gwood that would be good. Marble, Redstone. It is 45 miles South of aspen so you could spend a day or two in Aspen which is BEAUTIFUL in the winter. Glenwood itself has a 4 mile park for tubing and snowmobiling and that sort of thing and then there is also Sunlight ski resort. Other places that would top the list for me would be Creste Bute and Winter Park. Have Fun!

I grew up in Ruidoso, NM, its about 9 hr. west from Dallas. They have skiing, tubing, ice skating and it is a cute ski town. Lots of cabins in the Upper Canyon. If you want Colorado Durango is a cute smaller town with lots to do. Durango is in the 4 corners area. Up closer to Denver you have Aspen, Veil or Winter Park (my Mom is from there). Cali. has some nice places as well Mammoth, Lake Tahoe and a few more up North. If you would like to know more about any of these area I will let you know.

The New England states are excellent for that, too. Esp. Vermont, Connecticut and Massachusttes. I have relatives from the last two and I love it around Christmas time there. Just go online and research the states and see what you can find. Good luck and have fun!!

Hi there! I lived in Colorado for four years and Christmas is a wonderful time of year there. If you are looking for small town, I would suggest Crested Butte, Steamboat or even Keystone. You can ski in both areas but they are not HUGE resort ski towns. They do snowmobiles, tubing (I know Keystone has a tubing run on the mountain, hiking, shopping etc. If you want something bigger, I would suggest Vail or Winter Park. Every mountain town there is great and you can find something to do in each place. They all have rentable condos and cabins that you can find on their Web sites. Just type in the resort name on Yahoo. Keystone, Breckenridge, Copper Mountain, Vail and Beaver Creek are all within 30-45 minutes of one another so if you want to visit a few places they are very close.

I hope this helps! My husband and I just got back from a week in Keystone and it was heavenly! Have fun!

A lot of people in my company spend the holidays (basically the whole month of December until after New Years) in Crested Butte, CO. The owner of my company owns a house there, but there are tons of other places. Everyone says it's perfect there.

Winter Park Colorado is a little less expensive than Vail, Butte, etc. and more kid friendly plus it is the shortest distance from Denver :) They have one of the best tubing hills. I traveled Colorado ski resorts in my college years with the ski team :)
I also LOVE Jackson Hole Wyoming, it is very charming and has a western flavor! Have fun I can't wait for my kids to get a little older so we can do this too.

I would recommend Breckenridge Colorado. It is a picture perfect little town and they really decorate and go all out for Christmas. It is a ski town but there is other things to do. There are lots of places to rent but that is the high season so it cost more and I would book it now. We used Great Western Lodging to book a condo a couple of years ago and had a great experience. Good Luck.
