We live in an apartment and it's just too small to hold our son's birthday party, so I'm trying to think of a good place to hold a party for him that will be fun for him, but since there won't be a ton of kids there (maybe 5) I'm not sure the normal birthday party places (Gymboree, Chuck E Cheese...) are worth it. The park seemed like a good idea, but since his birthday is in mid-December, there's no telling if it will be too cold.
I would really appreciate any ideas. I'm trying to start thinking about this early since my husband turns 30 on New Year's Day and I want to plan something special for him too.

My hubby works for chuck e at the corp office. They do a new thing where you don't have to reserve a party, just tell them when you get there it is his 1st b-day. We did do my sons with 5 total kids and chose a location that still lets you have a party and pay per kid. And no, they do not offer employees discount or free parties, so we paid full price. It was a lot of fun for everyone.
What about the clubhouse at your apartment complex? I remember people having baby and wedding showers in mine when we lived in an apartment complex. They are usually pretty spacious and have a kitchen area.

Maybe even a restaurant...like Spring Creek that will let you have the private area and you can bring a cake and what ever activities you want. Could be easy and fun. Guest could pay for their own meal if they want and you just do cake. You could play games, etc. just like you would at home. Decorate as you need, etc. I had a surprise birthday there, and also have done a couple of other events at Spring Creek. Kept the cost down and was so very easy!
K., when was your little one born? I also have a baby turning 1 this dec (the 12th)! we just moved to tx so i haven't even thought of parties since we don't know anyone, LOL! good luck finding a place for both you and your husband!

McDonald's is a really good place for a party. We had 2 of my daughter's parties there and they are reasonably priced. They furnish everything, including the cake and ice cream and they have someone come out and do everything for you.
My sister manages apartments, and I know she has rented the clubhouse several times to hold parties. Have you check with your apartments? Sometimes, they don't charge anything but hold a deposit for cleaning if necessary.
Otherwise, my sister in law borrows my house for her kids parties and I don't mind it. Do you have a relative that would let you host the party this year? When they are that little, the party seems mainly for the adults anyway and you are right Chuck E Cheese would kinda be a waste and adults could live without it.
Hi K.- Well, I would try some lcoal fire halls and maybe your church may rent out a portion of the building. Also- not sure what you are planning but if you live in Keller- Keller Point has a great set up there as well.
I have a host assistant busines- I send girls in to help you with your party- They do what ever it takes to keep you out of the stress and into the party- help set up- serve food, clean up- bring out cakes, all those things that keep you running arund the entire time. We can go to your home- the hall- anywhere.

If you would like to do Chuck E Cheese - which we have enjoyed when the kids were very small because it is EASY - you can do that without booking a party. They have lots of tables around the "fringe" of the birthday room that anyone can use. We go in, buy a couple of pizzas and some drinks and tokens (there are great coupons online for that) and let the kids play. You bring your own cake or giant cookie and have your party without paying the per person price. Also, if he is turning one and his guests are young too, you could do it during a weekday morning when things aren't so busy - the moms can enjoy each other while the kids play and it's a fun time.
Some McDonald's and Chick-Fil-A's do birthdays too. And have playgrounds inside. Also, a fun idea is to get your birthday cake from a place that provides a 'baby cake' - where your little one can make a fun mess touching his first cake without spoiling the larger cake for your guests.

What about the rec center, gymnasium (that allows private rental and has tumbling teachers there for the party guests), or club house (anyone's condo/apt. complex have one?)? I know some of the rec centers are really nice and provide the tables and chairs and a small kitchenette with a microwave. Plus, there's plenty of parking.
We tried CEC with our son's party, and wow! There were SO many kids, it was hard to keep an eye on ours (party guests). (But CEC works with other ages better.)
