We have a very elderly friend whose eyesight is quite poor. She loves her Christmas tree but it's hard to see the lights and decorations now.
I am looking for suggestions for: a string of lights that would go on a tree that play Christmas carols (preferably traditional music, such as carols and songs like "Silver Bells", not things like "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree"), or a Christmas music box that plays carols (preferably not little computer tones but a pretty melody). We really want to mail her a surprise that she can enjoy. She lives alone and just loves Christmas.
Has anyone seen anything like these items? Any suggestions where I can find Christmas decorations for vision-impaired people?

Try calling a center for the visually impaired and asking them. I am sure they would have some great ideas. By the way, I think this is so sweet of you and will probably make a big impact on your friends Holiday.
I searched online using "musical Christmas tree light string" and found several listings including this one:

I can't vouch for it but it's one example. Do some Googling to see if what's described fits what you're picturing. Some searches do not give you strings of lights but "controllers" that make a tree light up to music.
It's very nice of you to think of your friend and want to give her such a creative gift.
I have seen strings of light at Lowes that can be plugged into a headphone jack or synced with a smartphone... The lights themselves are quite large. You could get them, along with a cheaper music player and load it with some good music.
I suggest that there may be a store in the mall that provides specialty Christman items. One of our malls had a music box store that was open year around a few years ago.
We have had a set of these for years. They are actual bells and play beautiful Christmas carols. They're not "electronic tones." The bells really do ring and sound beautiful.
