Looking for a New Veterinarian in Pasco County

When I lived in Tampa before, I used to take my mini dachshund to Ehrich Animal Hospital on Sheldon Rd. (which I loved). For the past 5 years since I have been living in Land O' Lakes, I have been taking him to Cypress Creek Animal Hospital on old SR54. I have never really been happy going there, but continued simply because my dog is getting older and they have all his records. He started with an OCD habit of growling at the carpet in various places several years ago at which time the Tampa vet referred us to an animal behaviorist and seemed quite interested in seeking help for Max. He went on doggy Prozac, etc. When we first started taking him to Cypress Creek, people would laugh at him and call him the crazy dog, etc. Maybe he scensed the teasing because he even bit one of the male techs there. That caused Max to get a visit from Animal Control at our house and a notice that he had to be "quarantined" for 3 weeks. If it happened a 3rd time, he would have to be put to sleep. So, Max now has a big sticker on his chart labeling him as an aggressive dog. EVERY time I go to Cypress Creek, I see a different tech and even more annoying... a different Vet. I have to tell them to put a muzzle on him because they are always like, "Let's just see how he does"... of course they change their tune when he strikes at them or when he bites me instead like he did last week. I don't even give him the Prozac anymore because I got tired of the laughs and having to reexplain why he was taking it in the first place EVERY time I took him to the vet for checkups, etc. He had his teeth cleaned and a surgery to remove 4 lumps under his skin about 2 weeks ago which involved him having a drain in his side. They told me to return in 10-12 days to have the drain and the stitches removed. Well, 5 days post surgery, my dog pulled the drain out on his own. Since I was worried knowing that wasn't "supposed" to be taken out that soon, I had my husband take him to the emergency vet, FVS, to get checked out. They said they thought drains should be pulled within 2-3 days after surgery. Well, $100 later and a phone call to our vet that following Monday sealed the deal as to why I don't like Cypress Creek. The vet laughed while tallking to my husband on the phone and said that tech should have written on the D/C instructions to have us return in 5 days to have the drain removed. I took him last Friday to have his stitches taken out and I didn't even have a chance to complain because they took my dog in the back without me (after I had to request a muzzle when he bit me) and the vet came out to the lobby and said, "They are taking out his stitches and everything looks fine"...that was it and walked off. I was fuming when I left. Sorry for my LONG explanation but, I just really want to take him somewhere else. If any of you have a Vet that you LOVE, please respond. Thanks so much!!!!

I noticed that someone already responded with Wesley Chapel Veterinarian Services. They are located on the corner of SR54 and Curley, in the small trailer. They are great and I have been going there with my two mini dachshunds since they were brought home. The staff is great and they remember Hotwheels and Honey every time they see me, even out in public. I love my babies and can honestly say I have been extremely pleased with the service I have received. Also, they have never taken the dogs out of my sight for any service. My neighbors all take their pets to them as well. Their phone ####-###-####.

Hi Carla,

I only have cats but I have been going to Trinity Pet Hospital on Mitchell Ranch Rd. in the plaza with "Hers" right near the Chelsea Place Publix plaza. They have treated me well and they are reasonably priced. Good luck in your search!

I recommend Dr. Mara Ricci. She is a wonderful, patient and caring vet. She is on County Line Road in Lutz - right behind the Oak Grove subdivision (and before you go over 275/75 on the bridge and after Livingston Road.) I live off 54 in LOL and cut through Oak Grove (via Oak Grove Blvd.) and make a right and she's on the left - it's really close.

She is a loner in the office - so what you see is what you get and her office staff is phenom. Her nurses - Leah and Matt are great. Dr. Ricci used to be a partner, years ago, in Cypress Creek Animal Hospital and when Dr. Brooks sold it and made it corporate - she left and went to Dade City.

She is back in our area and I promise you, she is a wonderful, wonderful doc. BTW - we have a "Max" too! Call her to have a consult - she is open to meeting you and discussing your concerns to see if you like her. I can tell you her costs are a lot cheaper than Cypress .... firsthand experience there!

Her phone is ###-###-####, her address is 3511 East Couty Line Road in Lutz (33559) and her practice is call the New Tampa Animal Hospital.

Good luck.

Hi there, we recently moved to Wesley Chapel and I have used Wesley Chapel Veterinary Services three times already. We have two Miniature Pinchers, one of which has a very bad allergy to just about anything and everything. I have been so frustrated in the past because other vets have charged me hundreds of dollars at multiple visits "to see what was wrong with her." Finally I couldn't afford the regular cortisone injections and expensive visits and I tried benadryl for her and it worked.
When I took her to this vet the 1st time it was just for both dogs regular shots...then a few weeks later my female developed a horrible ear infection and despite it being a holiday weekend they got me in the very next day.
I was dreading what the doctors response would be to me "self-medicating" the dog, but he was very kind and told me if it worked to go for it! He added a shampoo, and vitamin regiment for her...but no expensive testing.
The office is far from fancy, they are more of a mom & pop type establishment that also work with horses and farm animals...but they are truly sweet people especially the office staff.
I am pregnant and to take two dogs (very hyper dogs) there by myself because my husband could not attend is a huge challenge! The office staff met me at my car and helped me and helped me get them back into my car again on our latest visit.
They are certainly worth a try and they are actually a little bit less expensive than other vets in the area and they offer generic versions of heartworm/flea/tick time of preventatives which I thought was a really neat thing...considering alot of people refuse to purchase heartworm prevention if it costs too much...theirs is like 10 bucks for a 6 month supply if I remember correctly. They still offer all of the name brands as well. Hope this helps!
