Looking for a New Vacuum Recommendation

Our vacuum has died and I'm in need of a new one. There's so many out there and I figure moms know best! lol I definitely want a bag vacuum and we don't have any pet hair to worry about - just 2 boys. I don't mind paying a little more for something that will last.

What can I do next?

In 1988 I paid $700 (seemed like a fortune then!) for my Kirby. It is still working very well 22 years later. The only thing I don't like about the company is their in-home sales practice. I wish you could just buy one at the store.

I had dyson animal for about 18 months. When it works it works great. When it breaks you're screwed :)
I'm screwed, mine broke a few weeks ago and i am going to get something else. don't get me wrong, i loved the dyson but to me it's not worth it to pay 550 dollars for something that needs cleaning every 2 months, and when it breaks CS is useless.

Hoover..........never had problems and it did better on the consumer reports than Dyson. Nothing against Dyson, I wanted one myself..........but Hoover was cheaper and got better reports.

Hi S., We just retired our electrolux Harmony vacuum. We have a dog now and it just could not keep up with all the shedding. However, before the golden retriever came into our life, I just loved it. Worked great on all my hardwood floors. Only problem was finding bags in a cinch, I would have to order them online, but I live out in middle of nowhere.

Hoover WindTunnel with a bag was Consumer Reports' top pick, even over the Dyson and every other brand. I think it's great. Compared prices locally and online. Found it online cheaper and with free delivery. Arrived in 2 days! Before you guy anything online, check for a coupon code to use at checkout. You can usually get at least free shipping.

With my first baby (10 years old now) I wanted the best, and spent a fortune on an Oreck. What a waste! It is the worst.

We have 2 dogs, and bought the Dyson Animal over the summer. It is great! It doesn't have a bag, but has the tank that we empty. They have other models as well, which would be less expensive.

I guess the right answer depends on the type of floor you are vacuuming. Go to the stores and try a few, then read reviews and take the leap!

I see you have plenty of answers already but I had to respond b/c I LOVE my vacuum. I bought the Eureka Boss Smart Vac b/c it was voted best at Consumersearch.com (it out-performed a Dyson) and only costs about $150! I got mine at Meijer and my carpets felt SO clean after I started using it. I loved walking barefoot on them. It's very powerful, and you can't beat the price.

I'm a big fan of the Kirby systems. They are a lot more than a Hoover and even the Dyson but they work amazing! My cousin Matt had Cystic Fibrosis growing up and the Kirby system was the only one recommended by his doctor to get the dust and allergens out of the carpet and air. My favorite feature is that it has a shampooer head and man oh man, does that come in handy; I'm trying to convince my in-laws to trade me their Kirby for my Dyson; my mil thinks its too heavy so she must not be switching the transmission from N to D while its on. lol Good luck

Oreck. It is so easy. I've bought others that were heavy, hard to store, etc. Orecks are so light and easy to maneuver. They have a bag that is easy to get to and fills top down, so it keeps on suctioning even til the end. And the mechanics on the inside are so very easy too! You can run over paperclips and not hurt it. It slides under beds and couches with it's beautifully flat profile. Very nice.
