Dear Mamas,
I have a 2009 Honda Odyssey. Next year my daughters will be in kindergarten and first grade. I would like to be able to carpool with some friends, but in order to do so, we need 5 children in booster seats. I currently have 6 boosters, but none of them will work fitting three across the third row.

Can anyone recommend a safe booster that is narrow enough that I an fit three across the third row?

Thank you!!

What can I do next?

I can put 3 across in my backseat but it's not easy AND it requires that I get out of the truck to do it. I have a 5 & 6 yr. My five yr old sits in a radian 5 pt harness, which is the most narrow carseat I have found. He's been in it for a little while so he is used to still using a 5 pt harness. My six yr old is in a full back booster. Each son is on the outside. When we have a 3rd child, I put a backless booster in the middle. I must get out of the truck (4 runner) to get the 2 booster seats properly buckled. It is no easy task and for this reason, I do not want to carpool with my neighbor. I will do it for a friend to come over or if a friend needs help with pickup....but otherwise I won't commit to this task on a daily basis. Good luck!!!

Sunshine Kids Radian 80 is the narrowest on the market but it's actually a convertible car seat so you're talking $200+. They also have the Monterrey which goes to a bigger weight and height limit and is around $140. It's 19" wide, the Radian is 17" wide.

I also was going to suggest the Sunshine Radian. It's the narrowest seat out there. I have friends that have cars that use one or more of these to fit three seats into their cars.

We have an Astro and all six of our children are still in boosters or car seats. We bought these, Safe Traffic Systems Ride Safer Vest, for two of our children. They are working great for us.

hmm, well, you should probably check with state laws on this but...

the reason for a booster seat is to safely position the shoulder harness for small children. If the middle seat happens to be a lap-belt only, then the booster is not really necessary for added safety. Does that make any sense? However, I know the state laws are that they need to have the booster until they are 80 lbs or 8 y.o. but I don't know the fine print about the law. Maybe check into it?

We just bought the Sunshine Radian Kids and love it. We also have the Britax Fronteir and are big fans--but it is an absolute pain to move into another car. The Safety First Safeguard Go is a good seat option too and is a piece of cake to move.

Hello,
We moved our daughter up to a booster a few months ago. In my extensive research, I learned that the Sunshine Kids Radian is narrow (I believe it's the 80, but check online reviews) -- it also has the 5 pt. seatbelt which is SO important to continue with past the baby seat. It's also very highly rated. Since a slim seat wasn't what we needed, we went w/ the Britax Frontier, also a 5 pt harness. Good luck!
