My family and I are moving to Austin in September, and I just found out that I'm pregnant. I'm looking for midwife recommendations in central Austin. I'll most likely have a home birth.

What can I do next?

June Lamphier was wonderful. Have had 3 births at home with her and would highly reccommend her. cell is ###-###-#### has office near central market south. Also used Melanie Henderson for two births and she was north austin, but have lost track of her. What awesome experiences! Our first was at Seton Central and was a good experience but home birth with a midwife is amazing...God bless!

Congratulations!

We used Illysa Foster at Sisters Midwifery. She is amazing! Very knowledgeable and open to alternative treatments to common pregnancy "ailments" while being very thorough. She trusts women's bodies and is non-invasive during the labor. She also works to create community and offers client walks around town lake, prenatal classes just for her clients, and a cooking class where we all gather and make yummy in-season food. Her info is: www.sistersmidwifery.com; ###-###-####.

Just interview as many midwives until you find the right fit. You and your husband will know!

I used Vicki Meinhardt. And she was AMAZING! We owe her our daughter's life!!! Her business is called www. wholisticbirthways .net and that is her website. She is located on South Congress, close to downtown. Good Luck!!!! Austin is a great place to have a baby, and if you end up having to go to the hospital, they just started allowing Midwives to attend you!

Debra Day (http://www.austinprofessionalmidwifery.com/) is completely amazing. She has 30 years of experience and is confident, gentle, intuitive, and cares so deeply for each of her clients. She is there for you as a midwife but also makes sure your emotional health is in great shape. I highly recommend her.

My second child I had at home with a great Midwife. Here name is Michele Fitzgerald. Her number is ###-###-#### Office and ###-###-#### cell. She is located in central Austin. Home Birth Services is the name of her practice. There is at least one other midwife that works with her and they are always training. (I had 2 midwives and an assistant plus a Doula at my last birth) They have a lot of experience and have doctors to back them in case of any emergencies (I went into labor at 28 weeks, went on bed rest and meds until 36 weeks and was able to have our baby at home)
If I were you I'd check out a couple midwives and find the one you are most comfortable with.
Good Luck!!!

I used the Austin Area Birthing Center (www.austinabc.com). They have 4 midwifes on staff and they were absolutely wonderful.
It is worth going for the free tour just to check it out. Just give them a call and tell them that you would like to come see them and they give you a no obligation, tour of the facilities and talk to you about brithing with midwifes.

I just had a home birth back in April and I LOVE my midwife! Her name is Julia Bower. She lives in South Austin and we live up North, but I would have driven twice the distance to see her. She is so non-envasive and relaxed and supportive that my labor was a breeze! She is very laid back and has so much trust in the female body to be able to do the job. She also has years and years of experience. She is a Certified Nurse Midwife. If you want more info on midwives in Texas go to www.texasmidwives.com. There are several there who have their credintials posted. Look up a few that you like and interview some before you decide on one that is right for you. Congratulations!
