Looking for a Lego Table
I would like to get my 8 year old a Lego table for Christmas. First, I didn't realize how expensive they are! At any rate, all the ones I did find are smaller ones meant for toddlers/pre-K kids. My 8 year old is, well the size of an 8 year old. He has a number of special needs so the table being size appropriate is pretty important. Has anyone seen a lego table that would work? Hopefully one that doesn't break the bank :) I would be more interested in finding one that has the storage in the middle, but will consider all suggestions.
Thanks in advance!
So What Happened?™
WOW!! What great ideas, everybody! The table being new certainly wasn't important to me (we have LOTS of previously loved stuff) so the ideas of checking thrift stores and craigslist were good ones. My favorite idea was the "make your own" using an IKEA table. I found one at IKEA for $50.00, the bins were $2.00 each, a suitable chair for $15.00, a clip on lamp for $5.00, and then I just have to order the base plates (I checked Amazon.com and found a package of 10 x 10 plates for less than $20.00). So, for less than $100.00, I can build the perfect gift :) Thanks again!

I was just doing some research on this the other day and found this website with a neat project for making your own lego table. Check it out :)

Dear S.,
I recently saw a LEGO table in the one step ahead catalog that is made for ages 3 and up and pictures an adult sitting at the table with the kids so it's probably not too small. It has a storage area in the middle and three panels that are reversible so it can be used as a smooth table for other activities. If you go to onestepahead.com you should be able to find it. It sells for 159.95- ( not too bad compared with ones from the LEGO site which go for almost 300.00!)
Good Luck!

Check out eBay, too, there are some custom sized ones, and there are some "lap tables" like those breakfast in bed type trays you can sit over your legs on the floor, couch or bed. Like others have said, you coule probably buy the sheets of lego material/base and glue them to any table you find or build to the right size.

Hello! We ordered the Nilo Lego block table a few years ago for our daughter. We also purchased a chair that includes a storage area. The table is very sturdy. It was not inexpensive, but really has been a favorite among all of my children. There are many different options/sizes found here: http://www.nilotoys.com/index.htm
I too have a child with special needs. Elliot is now three and has Down syndrome. He loves to play with oversized legos on the table and we recently set up our Thomas the Train set and both boys (2 and 3) and our 7-year old daughter play for hours with that. Good luck!

I know you can find the base plates for sale so why don't you find a table that works for your son and then buy the base plates to make your own table (at quick glance plates will set you back 30-40 dollars on Amazon) That way you know that it will fit him and you can get what you want for less money. You can even make the table yourself or just attached the plates to a board and set that up at the dinning table when he wants to play. Good Luck!

S. , our family has a train table purchased at Sam's club several years ago. We not only use the table for trains but also for his Legos and Army men it is the perfect height for our small 10.5 yr old to use because the sides have a little dip in them and it also has drawers at each end. I think you can go on-line and still get similar tables from Target and Sam's club. We paid somewhere around $175. I think. It is plain white and has a green working surface. Good luck . I also checked on line Target does have the tables but thereis also a co. called activitytable.com the link was at the bottom of the Target site. J.
