Looking for a Great Steam Mop
has anyone used a steam mop for there hard floors? i am trying to use less chemicals in our home, and would really like to have a steam mop, but the ones i have looked at have such a wide range of reviews. from loving them to thinking they are a complete waste of money. any good or bad reviews would be great. i am willing to spend the money to get one that is really great.
So What Happened?™
okay, so after i got all of the great recommendations from all of you, i found out that you can not steam peal and stick linoleum floors, because it causes them to peel off of the floor. so i will be trying the microfiber mop that you use water with. it is only 15 dollars, so at least if it is a failure, it is less than the 100 or more dollar steam mops. thank you to all who took the time to reply. next time i will do my research first haha.

Nothing about a steam mop, but I too am grateful for a husband who works very hard so I can be a stay at home Mom. I'm grateful for a man who thinks mothering is the most important thing I can do.

I have borrowed my neighbor's Shark before and loved it! I used it on my hardwood as well as bathroom tiles and even the stalls. No chemicals, just steam. Also, as for brands with less chemicals, try Melalueca.com I have used all their products exclusively in my home for over 3 years and love them.

I recently purchased a steam fast steam mop on walmart.com. I absolutely LOVE it! If you go to their website you can view and compare all the brands they sell. It was only $40! I had to have mine shipped to the store (could've sent it to my house by why pay more) They dont sell them in every store. I would highly recommend getting one. However, I would stay away from the infomerical ones. Specifically the H2O. I've heard horrible things about that! You can also check out www.infomercialratings.com to read up on infomercial mops. I have 2 boys 1 and 3, two large dogs, and I run a daycare from my home. My floors see alot of wear. The steam mop was the best purchase I've made in awhile. Hope you enjoy yours if you decide to get one!

S., I just wrote someone last week about the Shark from Euro-Pro. We bought ours at Bed, Bath and Beyond for $70 and it is fabulous. We use distilled water only and our floors have never been cleaner. Good luck and enjoy!

I have one of the steam mops that you see on TV. I love it! I hate using chemicals in my home and this mop really does an incredible job. I still have to wipe in corners, but that is not a big deal. For other safe products to clean with, I also use Shaklee products. Great for cleaning! R. M

Hi~
I read your responses and assume you'll probably be getting a Shark steam cleaner! LOL I've never used one, but if you have any carpet, I would recommend getting a 'water' vacuum as NO vacuum with any dry filter will clean like one with a water filter. I've sold Rainbow vacuums for 8 years and hear that OceanBlue, Hyla, and Thermax are also efficient. (I have several used Rainbows and LOTS of information about them in case you're interested further!)
Have a happy household!

Hey S., my name is M., I have a 3 year old son. I read your question, and just thought I would respond. I had a Bissel steam mop, that I purchased when my son was born. We had wood floors, and a bassset hound so I thought It would be a good idea. I have to tell you I hated it, and have since sold it at a garage sale. Although you take off the mop head and wash it, you are just pushing the dirt from room to room. As far as safer cleaning products for your home, I have taken all the chemicals out of mine, and would love the opportunity to share with you how I did it. If you are interested keep in touch. If not good luck with your search. Thanks, M.

I don't have experience with steam mops, but I have discovered that my deep-steam carpet shampooer works GREAT for doing my hard kitchen floor! One tool for both jobs. And it doesn't make my fibromyalgia flare up nearly as much.
That aside, check out Consumer Reports. They are wonderful for independent test results.
Blessings,
