I am looking for a new OB/GYN since relocating from the San Francisco area over a year ago. I prefer someone who is open to alternative holistic approaches when appropriate, yet up to date and expertise on the latest advances in women's health and fertility. An empathetic approach, listening without rushing and a good sense of humor would be a great bonus!

I love the team at "Partners in Women Care" in Evanston. ###-###-####. I just swiitched to them with my second pregnancy because they have a midwife on the staff who was recommended to me and i love her. (And my ob/gyn at my old practice, where i had been for over a decade, said they were great, and she had nothing to gain by telling me that!) The midwife (Kathy Pulse) is very open to holistic measures, but i am still having my child at Evanston Hospital (which i have also been impressed with.) But the ob/gyns on staff seem great too, and there is a mutual respect between them which i've heard is rare. It's all female practice. Might be worth an informational interview with them (the midwife let us meet with/interview her for an hour at no charge!) Good luck.

Michelle,
I have a great OB/Gyn. In fact I would recommend all the women in the Women's Health Group in Evanston. They are affiliated with St. Francis Hospital at 800 Austin Street, East Tower, Ste 354, Evanston ,IL 60202. The phone number is ###-###-####. I have been going to Dr.s Wehrmann and Johnson for 10 years. They are both great, easy to get along with, friendly, very knowledgable and just really helpful and caring. I think they would be open to holistic methods, but I haven't talked to them about it. They only hire female doctors in their practice and the new doctor, Dr. Heo sounds great as well.

Hi,

I see Debbie Lesnick who is a nurse midwife. She is everything and more than what you are looking for. She is experienced, patient, a great listener, calm, knowledgeable, and open-minded. Also, she has one or two associates who are also nurse midwifes who are also terrific. Their office is located in north Evanston accross from Evanston Hospital on Central and Ridge. However, I delivered at St. Francis Hospital in Evanston which I think is absolutely the BEST place to have your labor and delivery.

I had a difficult second pregnancy and when needed they would consult with one of the doctors in the practice. My delivery experience was great. I was able to use a birthing ball, a birthing tub, and the nurses at St. Francis were really nice and supportive. Also, I forgot to mention that during my pregnancy I did use some herbal tinctures and remedies, as well as accupuncture, and they were really open about it. Do you have the book by Susun Weed?

Anyway, their number is ###-###-####, and my number is ###-###-#### if you would like to talk more.

I too just moved from SF. The OB/GYN that I found is in Skokie. Her name is Dr. Dillan ###-###-####) and her practice which includes 2 other doctors is comprehensive care for woman. I'm not sure about her approach with holistic medicine but I was impressed by her personal followup and her willingness to listen. I had some complications after my daugthers birth that she was willing to focus and suggest some alternatives other than surgery and/or medication. Hope this is helpful.

I also recommend Debbie Lesnick. She was the midwife who delivered my first child. I am pregnant now and have HMO, so I cannot use her again (the HMO doesn't have any participating midwives). I have a doctor now whom I really like. Her name is Catherine Dillon. She works with 2 other doctors. She does many natural births and is open to them. The biggest problem with her is that you have to make an appointment months ahead of time because she is so popular. Her number is: ###-###-####. Also, she works with 2 other doctors (a younger woman, and a man), and you have to rotate among them when you are going for prenatal care. I've met the man (Dr. Shaw) and was very happy with him too. I have an appt with the younger woman today.
