Hi. My daughter is going to be 3 in June and I think she is ready to start a structured sort of program, but I don't really know how to go about finding the right one. We live in Portsmouth, and I have my doubts about places here, but I really don't know where any are or what they are like. Also, she has been potty training, but goes through periods where she won't go at all (like now) so then I start to wonder if I should just wait. Do many preschools take kids that are not fully potty trained? I guess I just need to know all the steps I would have to take to find a place for her. I am willing to leave the area to bring her as long as its not too far. (like 30 minutes) And I am probably looking for something that is like 2-3 times a week. Thank you for any help!

Thank you all very much. I have been offline for a few days, but I will definitely look into those places.

Hey S.,

I have 4 year old twins and they go to the YMCA 1/2 day program. They love it! They are so well taken care of and learn so much. Plus they have swimming lesson's each week. In the summer they get to go swimming 2x a week. I only have them 3 days a week right now. I'm a little selfish still wanting "my" time with them before they have to go full day. The YMCA does offer both 1/2 and full days.

My name is J. and my daughter will be 3 on June 29. I have enrolled her in my church preschool in Deep Creek (Chesapeake. She will start in September. They have been in buisness for 3-4 years and I ahve heard good things from everyoine I have spoken to who has attended. It is about 1200 for the entire year- Sept through MAy/June. we have been potty trining since last June as well and I ma in the same boat youa re. I think they do have to be pretty trined for preschool, however, my hope is that by the time she starts in Sept if she is not potty trined completley then she will be when she sees other kids at preschool going potty. when we take her she goes 9 times out of tena nd knows what to do but she won't tell us if she has to go and does not always tell us after she has gone. It is hard and it is the only part of perneting that I absolutley HATE so far. My E-mail is ____@____.com put mamsource in the subject so io'll know who it is. You can E-amil me any time

Hi S.,

There is a Montessori preschool at one of the local churches in Portsmouth. It is a Lutheran Church on the corner of Cedar Lane and High Street West. Go by and talk to someone there.

There is a web site about potty training toddlers at

http://www.parentingtoddlers.com/pottytraining.html

Good luck. D.

Hi, I'm not sure where in Portsmouth you live in, but I take my son to St. Andrew preschool in Suffolk. It's actually in NE Suffolk off of Bridge Rd. It's located in a church and they are wonderful. The 3 year old class is Tues, Wed, Thurs from 9-12. It's not too much money either ($125 month) but I'm not sure about the potty training. You might have to call them. I think with her being in a class with other kids and seeing them go potty and having structure will help her with that issue. Good luck :) Here's the website http://standrewpreschool.com/Welcome.html

There is a new preschool starting this fall at River Oak Church in Chesapeake. It is right off of the 168 at the Battlefield south exit. The facility is brand new and was built to house a preschool. We attend church there and the rooms are great and have beautiful new preschool toys. It is not a daycare but a preschools so there will be a structured curric. Katie that will be running the program is great. If you want to get in touch and ask her questions you can contact her at ____@____.com

I teach at a school in Norfolk that has a preK3 & 4 year old program. The name is Christ the King School. We do have a few parents who are from Portsmouth that attend our school. Since I am a teacher in the elementary part of the school, I am not to familiar with the ins and outs of the preschool. If you call ###-###-#### they will be able to answer all of your questions. You can also go to our schools website at www.ctkparish.org for information. I know of several children who attend only a few times a week. They also offer full day or half day and lunch is included with both. The prek 3 teachers are great people. Best of luck in your search.

we take ours to first baptist church of norfolk near the newtown road exit. they have half day programs starting at 2.5 years old. they work with you if youre child is not fully potty trained. they have 3,4 and 5 day programs. i think they change from year to year depending on what everyone wants. they are starting registration now i think. anyway it's very nice and clean there you should check it out. they go up to kindergarten too by the way and is also a preschool not daycare.
