Would you be interested in a one-time volunteer event? Holt International (an adoption agency) is in desperate need of volunteers to "assist concert attendees as they sign up to become Holt Child Sponsors...[at a] high-energy Christian worship/rock/pop concert" in Ypsilanti on the evening of March 14. My daughter was sponsored through Holt in China before we adopted her. She was so healthy and happy, and we know it is because in addition to God's blessings, she was blessed with this sponsorship. My husband and I wish we could volunteer, but we can't because of limitations due to my husband's disability and due to the fact that I still nurse my baby. If you are interested, go to the web address below. You can read about the volunteer requirements there.

If you want to read more about sponsorship to understand what the volunteering is for, you can go to this web address.

I hope you, or anyone else, is interested in volunteering. Please let me know if you do, I would mean a lot to me to know if someone did volunteer.

The Beaumont hospital parenting program is a great program. There is a bunch of different things you could do, like lead a parenting group with a group of new parents/babies, or make phone calls to new mom's from your home to provide support or they have a set time every tuesday from the office if you wish to go in an meet other volunteers and make calls from the office. They also have volunteers who visit the families and newborns in the hospital and others who make breastfeeding support calls.
The program is free for all the new parents who have babies at beaumont hospital and is mostly run by volunteers. It is a wonderful program and they alway need volunteers.

I use to volunteer for Beaumont Hospice before my son was born. When he is in school I plan to do it again. You would have a choice of doing it in a hospital, a patients home, or at an Assisted Living/ Nursing Home.
It is such a wonderful thing to do for people who never receive any visitors and are so afraid and lonely - you can call Dan Rouan at ###-###-#### if you are interested.

How about your neighborhood elementary school? The PTO/teachers always needs volunteers to help with things like copying, cutting things out, decorating bulletin boards or classrooms, planning and running events/fundraisers, working book fair, help with computer lab or in the library. You will most likely have to fill out a form for them to do a background check but what a great way to get to know more about the school your children will most likely attend.
BTW: We live in Sterling Hts too and have a 10 year old daughter and a 6 year old son.
