Looking for a Good Nighttime Diaper

My son, 6 weeks old, is wearing Fuzzy Bun Cloth Diapers. I have been very happy with them except when he has a long stretch (5+ hours) of sleep. He seems to wake up because he is soaking wet. I have tried adding another insert to the Fuzzy bun, but it is too bluky. I also have tried regular pampers and huggies at night, to see if they also leak, and they do. Any suggestions? I am willing to try cloth or disposable, just hoping to find something that will not leak and then I think he will sleep even longer. (I know, I am very blessed with a good sleeper). Thank you!

What can I do next?

We always used the kirkland/costco brand diapers. We never had any accidents with them at all. We also used Huggies and they seemed to work just as good. Hope this helps.

M.,
My husband and I have a 2 and 3 year old. The only diapers we found that didn't ever ever ever leak were actually the walmart White Cloud diapers. I was really shocked, but they were the best, and cheap!

My son was a heavy peeier at night too and I bought and loevd the White Cloud brand, I think they can only be found at Wal-Mart but I loved them...not others I've talked too have not; but if I had to do the baby thing over again I'd go with White Cloud. (they are also slightly cheaper then Pampers and Huggies)

Good morning, M.! We have a 5 month old son and I usually use either Seventh Generation or Pampers Swaddlers on him all the time. We have yet to have any trouble with any leaks and he is an all night sleeper. We also have a 2 y/o daughter who we now use nighttime pull-ups on, but before she was big enough for them, we used Huggies Overnights. I'm not sure they make them small enough for a 6 week old, though.

Recently another mother wrote in with a similar issue. One response suggested adding a Serenity or Depends pad in the diaper at nighttime. Although I never tried it, I thought it sounded like a reasonable solution. She said that it worked great for her. I use disposable diapers and when my daughter had this issue, I simply went up one size in diapers and have not the issue again. Good luck!

We use luvs. I would suggest going up a size at nightime. We've had to do that and it worked just fine. In fact I'm getting a bigger size today cause he's been wet the last couple of nights. When this has happened in the past cause of too small of a diaper, it has always leaked up around his tummy area. So if he's wet around that area then I would go up a size.
Also, when our son was a baby, I tried huggies and pampers and both of them leaked really bad. I finally just bought some cheap walgreens brand and never had a problem. I saw that luvs were the same price and bought those and that is what we use now. I like the luvs better cause they are thinner and not as bulky as walgreens brand.

I agree with those that recommended BumGenius 3.0. They come with two sizes of inserts (newborn and older). The bigger ones are too bulky on my little one just yet, so I use the newborn and fold it 1/4 of the way down to put more absorbency where he needs it most (up front). It has worked great!

Good luck,
J

I feel for you! My 2 1/2 yr. old has had this problem for most of his life (since he started sleeping long stretches). Huggies Overnights are a God send! I used them for both of my boys. Praise the Lord Huggies finally stared making a size 6 overnight!
Another thing you can do is buy a small pack of diapers that are a size larger (as long as there is not huge gapping hole around his leg they should work) & just use them for his long naps.
I hope you can find something that works for you!

God Bless!

We use the Costco brand, Kirkland, diapers. They work great. The only time my son leaks at night is when he is close to go up a size. Once we go up to the next size we have no problem.

We also use fuzzi bunz. He is in a medium throughout the day, but at night he wears a large with 1 microfiber insert, 1 hemp insert, and one fleece insert. Yes, it is bulky, but it keeps him and the sheets very dry. He works with the bulkiness and he should be sleeping anyway.

The hemp inserts are expensive, but super absorbent.

Hi M., I feel your pain when it comes to finding a leak proof diaper for night. I have always had trouble with pocket diapers as well as disposables at night. I no longer use conventional disposable diapers, but I do use G diapers and cloth diapers. I have two different combos that work well for my heavy wetter. I either use a G diaper with two inserts and a wool cover, or I use a fitted diaper with two inserts and a wool cover. The key is a good quality wool cover. As long as you take care of your wool cover you shouldn't have any leaks. You can also put wool longies or shorties over your wool cover for even more protection. I hope that helps. Good luck.

We tried Huggies, Pampers, Luvs. My mom bought us a case of Kozy Kids-Tumblers. She gets them through Quixtar. They are the best diapers ever. My son's skin is still dry after being in one overnight. Let me know if you are interested in them.

Have you tried Huggies Supreme? They are a little more expensive, but they were the only thing that didn't leak when my son was about that same age. The good thing was he outgrew that stage by 3 months and I went back to the regular diapers. They seem to be snugger that the regular ones and didn't leak at all for me!

Before we switched to cloth we used Pampers Swaddlers and loved them... Sorry that didn't work out for you. :( What we use now is a BumGenius 3.0 one-size diaper. It's a pocket diaper that doesn't need a cover. They come with 2 sizes of inserts for really customizable absorbtion. And the great part: they say they're good for 7-35 lbs, so we'll be able to use them for quite some time. Good luck!

Have you tried a BunGenius 3.0? They fit my son so well. It is a a one-size pocket diaper so it will last until potty training time. You could fill the pocket w/a large microfiber towel. (The kind in the automotive section.) They hold a LOT of liquid. You can even stuff it w/an infant prefold & a microfiber towel. You'll get your $$'s worth b/c you can use it as a pocket diaper, unstuffed as a diaper cover, & as a swim diaper. Regardless of what you try, I hope you find a solution. Who wants to clean crib sheets every day! :-)
HTH!

Like someone else said, with cloth (if you want to go that route) bulk is absorbency. We use a size larger cover at night and two diapers. When my kids were little babies, I really prefered diapers and covers at night to pocket diapers. They end up tighter around the legs. Now, (at 20 mo) I use my fuzzi bunz or bum genius for night time only because they don't let her feel the wet and wake up. I love my bummis super whisper wraps, and remember at night they don't move around too much, so the bulk doesn't bother them so much (whenever someone else sees my kids ready for bed they think it looks crazy, but I'm used to it). I haven't used wool (like someone said) but I've heard GREAT things about it. Enjoy your good sleeper!

You CAN get a cloth diaper to last all night.

Have you tried using a size larger for fuzzi bunz at night? Drybees also work awesome at night (they have an amazing nighttime diaper.)

If you are willing to branch out to fitteds/covers- you can get an entire diaper that is absorbent and cover with a thin cover and get more absorbency. Thirsties make AWESOME covers (my 4 year old can fit into a large with the tabs touching) and I've heard great things about thirsties fitteds with a doubler for added absorbency. HTHs!!

Hate to say it, but bulk = absorbency when it comes to cloth! My three month old uses an infant prefold as a doubler inside a premium prefold at night... he has a HUGE bottom, but it lasts 12 hours. At this age they aren't moving around much, and even when they get older, it's just for nights, so the bulk really won't bother him. You're the only one who has to see it, so don't worry about being embarrassed by the giant cloth bum. I think it's pretty cute! (;

Hi M.! We have also had that problem with fuzzy buns during naps and night time sleeping. My son is allergic to the more expensive diapers and we finally found one that works for us when we travel and etc. Do you live in the Wichita area? Or even around a Dillions or Kroger? The only one's he can wear are the Kroger Comforts! They're like the cheepest diapers out there, but they hold a TON of pee! We put these on him at nap and night time and when we're out and about. They come in all sizes and are really great! He's one now and have been using them since we found that those worked best for him and he didn't get a rash with them. I hope this helps. They're really worth a try since they are so cheep! Good luck!

Huggies Overnights rock the house.... You can buy them on-line in sizes 2 & 3 check out drugstore.com. Walmart carries sizes 4 & %. Once we moved my DD to the Huggies overnightes at 6-weeks we only had to change poopies at night. I started putting DD in size 2 for overnights even when she was still in a size 1. Worked great!! Good luck:)

We use huggies supreme at night, they are the only ones that don't leak at night for us. (there are multiple types of huggies diapers). It also might be time to move to a bigger diaper. (i have no clue about cloth diapering.). For my daughter, as soon as she starts peeing through diapers it is time for a bigger one. At 6 weeks she was in a size 2 already. ( I pay no attention to the weights on the bags, she wears what looks like it fits well with no leaks, and ones big enough she doesnt pee through them at night).
