Looking for a Good Family Doctor

I am looking for a GOOD family doctor in the Jacksonville area. I live in the Arlington area and would prefer someone close to this side of town.

If you currently have a family doctor that you really like I would appreciate it if you could share their name with me. I hate just picking someone off my insurance provider list without knowing or hearing from someone else who they prefer.

I would also like to know if there are any to just plain stay away from. This is mainly a doctor for myself and my husband as I have already found a wonderful pediatrician for my daughter.

Thank you and I hope that everyone is having a wonderful day.

M. N.

What can I do next?

My entire family goes to Dr. Portalatin in Baptist Primary group and have done so for years. It's on Regency Square Blvd, between the southside connector and Mill Creek road... behind the regency square mall.

Coincidentally, my daughter's current pediatrician is there too. Highly recommend her (Dr. Rhoades), but I'm switching because of my now living on the westside.

The doctor we go to is good and they have two offices.
They also have a web site to check out.

One office is at the beaches but the other is around Old St. Augistine Road. We go to the beaches office and my son loves the staff and doctors. (Just two)
I hope this helps you out and the site also has a place you can check to see if they take your insurance.

I see Dr. Douglas Pennington (he is at Southside Family Medical Care Center) which is on southside Blvd. close to Atlantic. depending on where in arlington you live, it's within a 5-10 min. drive. There are a few other doctors in this practice also, including a Ped's doctor (i know you said you have one) but it's nice to know a back-up! I have seen a cupple of the other doctors, and they are all very nice and take time to answer questions.. the only complaint is that sometimes there is a bit of a wait.. but worth it, if you have the extra time to wait! the phone # is ###-###-#### - Good Luck!! I hope this helps..

Dr. Fara Nadal. She would be perfect for you. She is with Baptist primary care on Ft. Caroline and University in the publix shopping center. I've been seeing her for several years. She was actually recommended to me by one of the doctors I work with and everyone I know who sees her absolutely loves her. She's very compassionate. MY DH hates to go to the dr. but loves this woman. Best of all, there are no long waits for appts. If you are sick, they usually can get you in right away. She's worth a try.

I really like Drs. Decker & Camacho in the Memorial Hospital Building. Dr. Camacho always listens to all of my questions and never seems to be in a rush or annoyed by my having so many questions. He also saved my "normal life" when fancy Mayo Clinic allergists couldn't figure out how to treat my life-threatening allergy with anything other than Benadryl. He made an immediate suggestion, which saved me from being an unemployable zombie. His office is often busy, but the staff is always helpful.

Hi, M.,

I have seen Dr. Susan Hoffmann for over 20 years (since I was like 6)and she has always done well for our family. My hubby also has seen her PA and he said he's "good for a PA." LOL.

Anyway, her office is in the Merrill Station Shopping Center across the street from Merrill Road Elementary. It's between Food Lion and Hungry Howie's Pizza.

She's pretty laid back and always answers questions. I never feel rushed. Her office can get kind of busy, but the staff keeps things moving.

The only downside is that she's a Shands affiliate, but she doesn't universally refer from that network and she has privileges at other hospitals as well.

Good luck,
H. P.
