Lutz on Montrose cakes are so yummy! I don't know if they do the special shape cakes, but as you said another cake had no taste - theirs are awesome.

Another bakery just opened in St Charles (their 2nd location). The Bakers Basket. Very good cakes, donuts, bread, etc. And they do custom cakes. I totally forgot they added this location. They are at Randall & Rt 38 (Roosevelt Rd).

La Petite Sweet in downtown Westmont did a Buzz Lightyear cake for us--looked great and was delicious! They are on Cass Ave, about 1.5 mi south of Ogden.

Lezza Bakery in Bellwood-

Not sure about what they can do as far as design goes but their cakes are awesome!!!! Highly recommend them!

Kean's in Itasca, Andreson's Bensenville, Sam's Club, Northlake (that is closer to you and believe it or not they do some wonderful, yet not very expensive cakes but it is a membership club which means if you don't know someone they catch you with the fee to get in.

I wholeheartedly second The Cakery in North Aurora. The owner, Bob, is a really nice and VERY talented guy (he's won decorating awards and contests and appeared on a couple episodes of a cake decorating TV show). Yes, I might be a little biased since my sister used to work there on their wedding cakes before having her baby, but I always get Cakery cakes for my kids' birthday parties. They're fantastic and very reasonably priced vs a Chicago bakery!

Try Sweet Mandy B's in Lincoln Park. They have the best cupcakes and I know they do cakes. Goodluck
